What's Keith doing these days?Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: What's Keith doing these days?Interesting that he played in Kuwait. He was a first round NBA pick that just didn't make it. Unbelievable talent but he was given the reigns here and never developed that skills to allow him to succeed at the next level. LB would have done absolute wonders with him, but it would have involved, as another poster said, a significant readjustment period. Analogous to KF in that he was a local kid who needed coaching on the fundamentals, but I think Sasser was even more raw. Great talent and a ton of fun to watch, though. One of the all time great SMU basketball personalities. Those were fun times with Sasser, Wilie Davis, and Elsey.
Re: What's Keith doing these days?No Sasser was much more polished than Keith and could create his shot even early in his career. That's why Sasser was an NBA prospect and Keith despite great coaching probably never will be. Keith did make some stides this year but was incredibly raw out of high school foir a 4-5 star recruit. Keith is potentially better 3 point shooter though

Re: What's Keith doing these days?
That was my era on the Hilltop. I went to every home game between 1997-2000. With regard to the question of what LB could have done with that entire team. . . I'd say not much more than what Dement did. They had some talent and athleticism, but none of the pieces ever really seemed to fit together. Those teams were all over the map and never got a big win. Very frustrating to watch over the course of an entire season. I remember a game we played in 98 or 99 at Stanford (I think it was preseason NIT). Stanford absolutely wiped the floor with us from the opening tip to the final buzzer. Sasser was the only guy on the floor for SMU who even looked like he belonged there. Total humiliation. I recall that being a major wakeup call regarding where that SMU squad stood in the NCAA hierarchy. Not sure how much LB would have changed that. I was a fan of Jeryl's hairdo his sophomore year, though.
Re: What's Keith doing these days?Sas was intriguing to NBA squads bc his handle was filthy for his size. Everyone was thinking they might have something, despite him being crazy raw, if he could be converted to PG
Re: What's Keith doing these days?Sasser had that gawd awful looking shot. Mechanics were all messed up

Re: What's Keith doing these days?
He shot .214 his rookie year and .309 his second year. That's not going to get it done ever, anywhere. That's why he couldn't stick in the league. And Stallion is correct, his mechanics were the worst I can remember from an NBA guard. That said, I love Sass and glad he still supports the program. I sat one or two seats over from him in a game in Garland. I think he's just raising his kids right now, he's got a lot of em. Dallas Mavericks - 2011 NBA CHAMPIONS!

Re: What's Keith doing these days? Before Nic this year, Sasser's sophomore year was as good as any SMU player post SWC.

Re: What's Keith doing these days?
Sasser would have transferred. It would have gone the way it went with Jalen Jones.
Re: What's Keith doing these days?We really should celebrate the type of kids we have had in this program in the last 2 years. Team players-just about every one of them could have bitched about their playing time-all remained positive and team oriented despite a lot of roadblocks

Re: What's Keith doing these days?
I was talking about his NBA shooting percentage his rookie and sophomore year. He only lasted 2 years. http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... eje01.html Dallas Mavericks - 2011 NBA CHAMPIONS!

Re: What's Keith doing these days?oh I had previously looked at his college 3 point shooting % and they were similarly bad
