A bowl game in Austin wouldn't be bad.
Little Rock seems equal to Birmingham when it comes to potential bowl sites.

New bowl game in Austin ... to include AAC?

Postby mrydel » Wed Apr 01, 2015 3:57 pm

The kids work hard. It is not a participation trophy, it is a end of year party. The little bowls allow the fans a trip to some place different and the players to get some swag and have a little fun. The bigger bowls are much more serious and meaningful. I would have loved to have been rewarded for the work I put in during the year.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/sto ... bowl-games

If approved as expected, there would be a record 43 bowl games, including the College Football Playoff title game, requiring 84 teams to fill each bowl. That would mean 66 percent of the 127 FBS teams would go bowling.

"As long as the standard to go to a bowl remains 6-6, commissioners will be pressured to have bowl games for all their conference teams to play in," an industry source said. "That's why you keep seeing more and more bowls added."

Fox Sports, CBS Sports Network and NBC Sports Network are the likely networks that would televise the new bowls, a source said. Industry sources said ESPN/ABC, which televised 38 of the 39 bowl games last season, does not have any interest in televising any of the new bowls.

Then the answer to that is more bowl games in Honolulu! :D

LA_Mustang wrote:My point is a team that has a very mediocre seasons can be rewarded just as well as a team that has a really good season.

That's been happening for years. That train left the station long ago

First, you need to differentiate between the casual and serious college football fans. Heck, casual fans couldn't tell you who won the Orange Bowl THIS YEAR! Second, there were 18 bowls in 1995. Was it truly THAT more memorable? How many serious fans recall who won bowls games in '94?

Nice to see Aresco working to get more postseason opportunities for our teams!

Not really a fan of the 6-6 bowl games, but eligible AAC teams should have access to post season play, if other conferences do. Will any of these new bowl be owned and operated by the AAC, like the Miami Beach bowl? The minor bowls cost for teams to attend are out of hand. It would be good for the conference to have more control over the bowl cost.

Hopefully the AAC starts assigning teams to the lower non NY6 bowl games like the SEC does and have teams go to the closest bowl geographically. As far as the better, higher payout non NY6 bowls (ones that want 2nd, 3rd place in conference etc), they may not have much leeway but for the lower ones w Sunbelt just send the closest 6-6 team there..

That is the theory on these small bowls, at least in Little Rock. Between the Sunbelt and the relatively close AAC teams and Little Rock being removed from the Razorback games, there should be potential for decent crowds.

Austin or Little Rock would be fun, and it is close enough for Tulane, Houston, SMU, Tulsa and Memphis fans to travel to. Should be decent crowds and extra practice whenever we have a reloading year moving forward.

How does the CUSA rate trips to Hawaii and the Bahamas over the AAC?

At this rate, maybe we'll only need to win 4 games next year to become bowl eligible
