Re: Courtland SuttonSutton and Line both looked solid. As did Davis, who I thought was outstanding.
I have a sunburn.

Re: Courtland Sutton
In his limited time last year, that is the first thing I noticed. He's going to be a very good player for us. Dallas Mavericks - 2011 NBA CHAMPIONS!
Long live the Circle of Champions!
Re: Courtland SuttonSutton is the real deal. Pretty much the only one I saw out there on the field today. However, he needs (1) the OL to block long enough for him to get down field and (2) a QB with enough arm strength to throw it up HIGH in the back corner where only he can go up and get it. I think he and KT will be fun to watch in a couple of years (once we get a QB and OL). If who I saw was in fact KT, I think we may have a winner there folks. Those 2 on the outside and Castille and a decent RB or 2 - with Gresham and/or P Line blocking - all we need is a QB and an OL and we have the pieces. I will need to learn to be patient. It most likely ain't going to be this year (or next) from what I saw today.
Re: Courtland SuttonOne thing I took out of the practices is that Sutton is really good, and will be a big threat, but also we don't have anything close to a number one corner right now. Nobody on the team can really slow him down. For the most part, if he wants the ball and it is thrown decently, he gets it, or he gets a flag.
I think the guy was a breakout star, but I also don't think you should judge him when he is covered by a walk-on corner...
Re: Courtland SuttonTalk about the difference in success blocking on the edge for WR screens when Sutton and Gaines were outside rather than any of the other WRs.
Apparently size matters ![]()
Re: Courtland SuttonFrom the first day of practice you could tell Sutton was the guy this staff was saying "well at least they left us this guy". How he fell to us so late in the recruiting game with quality offers (Colorado, BYU, Utah, etc.) is amazing. We haven't had a physical presence on the outside with his combination of size and athleticism in a very long time. Can't wait to see how his game grows in the next few years.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Courtland Sutton
Agreed, and I have a feeling he's just the first in a long line to come based on HCCM/staff recruiting. I think Kevin Thomas will also be a stud. Having those 2 guys on the outside with a speedy guy like Castille we have some explosiveness, just not the arm and OL quite yet (although I think Davis will have a great statistical year in terms of combined yards from scrimmage). (and after watching some of Castille's highlights, don't be surprised if he runs the ball a bit, too, out of some interesting formations - he's big enough to come in and do that from day one . . . I think Davis's legs plus some creative playcalling will "save" our OL's deficiencies from making us downright horrible). If we can keep Sutton and Davis healthy, our offense might just put up some surprisingly pleasant numbers by season's end against the AAC. We have some playmakers: Davis, Sutton, Gaines (and I think Thomas and Castille will also be playmakers for us THIS year - just wish we had KC as a 'true' RB, but again with creative playcalling Gresham and Line will help - they are both a load and will help in the blocking schemes as well).
Re: Courtland SuttonCastille will be the Sammy watkins of the offense - catch the quick pass in the flat you saw Shelby Walker catching on Saturday, and will also do some Jet Sweep stuff that Watkins did at Clemson.
Sutton will start at one WR, and then Thomas, Honey, and Proche battle for the third WR spot. Here is my depth chart: Castille - Walker - Line on running plays - Deion - Lancaster Sutton - Honey - Joseph Thomas - Proche - Malone H-Back: Gaines - Holloway/Line Herndon redshirts unless Gaines gets injured RB: Line - Gresham - Frosh QB: Davis - Hicks - Cobert
