2015 Applications
So what are the rumors regarding the size and quality of the applicant pool for 2015?
Re: 2015 Applications

There should be plenty of great new members for our Quidditch team.

Re: 2015 Applications
We won't hit 1320 this year. The number of kids taking the SAT is dropping dramatically while the ACT is gaining so the official SAT number will be around where it was this year - a point or so up. But, that is good with the number of kids taking the SAT dropping..........

Are the kids that are not taking the SAT ones that would generally score higher than our average?friarwolf wrote:We won't hit 1320 this year. Re: 2015 Applications
I'm not entirely sure why the number of applicants taking the SAT should affect our average SAT score. If most applicants are taking the ACT, it seems like we would just accept less SAT takers and more ACT takers. In other words, if we are becoming more selective, it seems that our average scores should go up regardless of which test applicants take.friarwolf wrote:We won't hit 1320 this year. Since more applicants are taking the ACT, does that mean our ACT scores will go up more, percentage wise, than our SAT scores?
Don't some students submit both test scores? When they do, don't we include both scores in our averages?
Are completed applications up?

Re: 2015 Applications
I realize you can choose which scores to send, but if you add the SAT takers to the ACT takers, one gets a higher number than the newly enrolled students.NewAgeMustange wrote:pretty sure you can determine which score goes where. when I took both I believe i only submitted the act to smu rather than my sat due to how horrible the score was. Act score was much much better.
I changed my question to reflect your point.

They derive the comparable sat score from the act, so it doesn't matter which test you take as far as our averages are concerned.

Re: 2015 Applications
I've wondered whether the citation to SATs covers the fact that a lot of athletes are admitted based upon the ACT. SMU published online a profile of the SAT scores of the student body in a Provost Report released a few years ago-but even that might not have accurately reflected the number of low qualifiers-which was surprisingly high-because it didn't include ACT qualifiers

Re: 2015 Applications
Would the SAT be less daunting for a low qualifier since it's just verbal and math vs four subjects? I've never heard of schools converting ACT scores to SATs for reporting purposes. I hope my kids can score well enough in a few years to get admitted.
