University Gardens for Sale?

Post by DiamondM75 »

Last night I was on campus and noticed that University Gardens is for sale. I don't understand why we would have this property for sale. Don't we need this land for campus expansion, or better student housing, or maybe - just maybe, better athletic facilities, or the Bush Library? I was quite surprised to see the property for sale.

Does anybody have any inside information as to why we are trying to sell this land?

Where did you see this, DM75? Is there a sign up somewhere?

The tenants were told several months ago that they had a short time to find other housing because leases were not being renewed. The DMN and the DC did stories about it which, I believe, were posted on this forum. However, I do not recall any information in those stories about the property being put up for sale.

Interesting.

Then why are there "For Sale" signs all over the place? Property of 11+- acres is what the sign says. And the contact is University Realty.

I think that is where the Bush library is going to go.

Clearly. The question is...... if that is where the library is going to go, why are they selling it?

Regardless of the final outcome of the W. library, SMU has zero reason to sell land adjoining its campus...doesn't make any sense at all.

Why doesn’t someone simply call the phone number on the sign and ask?

There may be some legal reason for marketing the property. Note I said "market" and not "sell."

SMU does not own all of the units - there are several units that have not sold - there is some sort of sealed bid going on for them now.

Perhaps you mean "they're"? Great to see that TCU education at work...
