Pony up!
Re: 2015 ATH Kevin Johnson commitsWas reading some good thing about this kid yesterday when I saw we and UNT gave him offers. Just became eligible for this class was gonna be JUCO, think we are putting him at DB.

Re: 2015 ATH Kevin Johnson commitswe've been salivating over this kid's potential for a couple of days over at Scout-at least I have. BTW those stats work out to 14.88 yards per carry
Ford Ram Tough 3A Player of the Year-and also was named Offensive MVP in 3A Championship game http://www.ktbs.com/story/28053486/wask ... f-the-year Also named the MVP of Smoaky's All-East Texas Team (which includes ALL Divisions up to 6A). David Smoak is probably the go-to expert on East Texas High School Football. Morris has said East Texas is major emphasis of this program. I think its a no-brainer to take the East Texas MVP especially when he is also a ridiculously talented athlete. In case you didn't notice he averaged 14.88 yards per carry on 134 carries for 1,995 yards rushing. I think he has somewhere around 6,000 yards rushing in his career. Maybe he stays on offense-although I bet CB Note: Johnson beat out Offensive MVP Blake Lynch (Baylor 4 star No. 185 Player in Country) and Defensive MVP Daylon Mack (A&M 4 star No. 54 Player in Country) http://www.smoaky.com/allsmoaky/allsmoa ... ners14.php Last edited by Stallion on Thu May 07, 2015 9:27 pm, edited 2 times in total.

St. Mary's baby!!! Pony up!
Re: 2015 ATH Kevin Johnson commitsThis kid is Lickety-split- unreal acceleration.
Although he didn't play CB in high school he's a great prospect there because no one will run away from him and he's got great closing potential. Agility off the charts. I don't care about offers or rating-he's a great athlete as proved by winning East Texas MVP over several National Gold Chips I'd like to see him on some special teams too. Re: 2015 ATH Kevin Johnson commitsInteresting he took the SMU DB offer over the UNT RB offer, but it seems like he sees the bigger picture and the staff did a great job of highlighting the features of SMU. With his speed I wouldn't be surprised if he gets some opportunity at RB, but then again SMU is already stocking up on fast athletic players.
Just look up Waskom on the map, you cant get more East Texas than that, touches the border.
Re: 2015 ATH Kevin Johnson commitsIf he plays offense I would think it would be at the Flanker position where Castille is penciled in. He was a multi-purpose back in high school playing at just about every skill position but he was particularly lethal at that Flanker position. Could be used QB in Wild Mustang or on Jet sweeps too. Even if he's not a return specialist I could see him getting on the field next year as the gunner on punt returns and on Kick Off defense

Re: 2015 ATH Kevin Johnson commitsJohnson was District MVP ...in Basketball too. 2 Time District MVP in Football, 1 Time District MVP in Basketball and 2 Time all-District in Basketball and Regional Qualifier in 3 Track events
Pretty rare Double Double Just to clarify-he's a pretty good student too even though he was a late qualifier-with close to a 90 GPA-just needed the right ACT Class 3-A: Kevin Johnson, Sr., Running Back/Free Safety, Waskom: Kevin Johnson threw one pass in 2014. On a key fourth and 12 play in a tight battle with Sonora, Kevin completed that pass for 34 yards, extending a key drive and leading the Wildcats to a 25-21 squeaker in the state semi-finals. A week later, Waskom dominated Newton 41-22 for the 3-A, Division II title, the school’s first. For the season, Kevin rushed 134 times for 1,995 yards (just shy of 15 yards per carry) and 21 touchdowns. He also caught five passes for 66 yards with two TDs and returned three kickoffs for touchdowns. He’s equally at home on defense. From his spot at free safety, he was in on 167 tackles, defensed three passes, forced two fumbles, and even scored a defensive TD. He has been an all-state safety each of the last three years. An all-around athlete, he was all-district in basketball last year when he was also a regional qualifier in the long jump, triple jump, and sprint relay. No slouch in the classroom, he sports an 88.9 percent academic average. He’s active in the First Baptist Church, the FCA and reads to elementary school youngsters every Friday. “Kevin is an unbelievable kid and a great athlete. He plays—and plays hard—on every play, at running back, defensive back, and kick returner,†says Waskom Coach Whitney Keeling. “He’s on the field for 140-150 snaps per game. And he’s a leader on both sides of the ball. He’s one of those kids you can totally count on—never late, never absent, always working at a high level. His mom gets the credit for raising him right. He and his running mate Junebug Johnson are cousins who’ve grown up in the same household since their first birthdays. There are no brothers closer than the two of them. Putting it simply, he’s the best player I’ve ever coached, and that encompasses a lot of players. I can’t think of anyone I’d trade for Kevin.†http://www.gilmermirror.com/view/full_s ... f-the-Year "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

Re: 2015 ATH Kevin Johnson commitsIf Stallion likes him, that's good enough for me. Pony up!
Re: 2015 ATH Kevin Johnson commitsKevin looks like a very solid athlete...I hope we put him in the secondary because we are going to need athletes back there and also agree he could be immediate help on special teams.

Re: 2015 ATH Kevin Johnson commitsIt is so difficult to project some of these small town kids at the next level but what is easily seen on his film is his tenacity. Both offensively and defensively he is relentless. Also, his change of direction is really impressive. Give this kid a year to learn the nuances of the position and I think he will be a real steal for us.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: 2015 ATH Kevin Johnson commitsAnother great pick up. Really like his tenacity and burst. Wherever he plays he will make plays.
Re: 2015 ATH Kevin Johnson commitsWith a 4.42 laser timed 40, he may very well be the fastest kid on the team right now.
