Again, it's not about Tim. It's about the city's major paper (with social media outlets) continuously trotting out a lazy, non-investigated, unsupported claim in a format that people will see, nod, and think is true. This has happened several times. Maybe it's always been Tim; Kevin, Chuck, and Bill seem to be pretty sharp on the whole issue.

The only way these lazy "has been" Dallas area sports writers are going to change the narrative is we start winning. And no I'm not talking about 6-6 as winning. I'm talking about 9 to 11 win seasons, consistently competing for conference titles, beating P5 programs, and acting accordingly. Until then its too easy for them to just sit back and say "see? no one can win there. Academics. Death Penalty. blah. blah. blah."

I imagine you are right. In a couple of years this perception will be gone, especially if we start winning against good competition.

As I move to a cynical old curmudgeon, I have learned that reporters are generally lazy and uniformed rather than plugged in. In all fields they mostly write conventional wisdom or just rewrite what sources give them. The old stereotype of the dogged honest hard working ink stained reporter is a work of fiction.

Please remember that Belo is a tool of UT. For some reason they still have it in for SMU even after they have orchestrated our removal from big time football. DMN and WFAA will never cover SMU in a consistently positive tone until the UT lovers in charge over there lose their paranoia. They still remember that in the 80s we beat them at their own game in both football and hoops and they don't want to lose talent to us again.
