Big get (literally) for the Coogs
Defensive tackle Ed Oliver, rated a 5 star by some recruiting services, just committed to UH.

#GoCoogs pulls a huge coup with commitment of 5-star DT Ed Oliver: http://bit.ly/1ejwErU
Will be interesting to see if they can hold onto him until NSD...that's a big coup, though. Going to be some great battles between us and UH in the years to come.

Wow. He is the #6 player on the ESPN top 300. That is big time.

good for the Cougars-rising tide lifts all ships. If we are going to survive, AAC needs to be seen as clearly best non-FCS conference in all sports to track decent TV/Bowl payouts. And the AAC could really use some rivalries like SMU/UH and UCF/USF in big markets and recruiting areas

Yikes!
It's a lot easier taking the "everything good for The American is good for everybody" attitude in basketball.

I may be wrong but I don't see that commitment sticking through signing day. Not with Ed Orgeron at LSU and Chris Kiffin at Ole Miss coming at him with the prospect of playing in the SEC... my guess is that he signs with LSU in the end.

Enough with the well wishes, I hope he has a sketchy recruitment path and has to quickly go off play in China.

Great job by UH if they can get him to signing day, that is the real test. Extra motivation for HCCM and company.

And then all of the Coogs will talk about how great he is and how he is one of theirs on draft day.

Stay tuned envious Pony fans. More big recruiting news coming today for the Coogs.

Re: Big get (literally) for the Coogs
Even though I hate Houston, we need these kind of recruiting coups for the good of the conference. Need to separate ourselves as the best non P5 and these kids committing to a conference rival surely signals our conference is good enough to attract that kind of commit. It will help us in the end.

Oliver's older brother is on the team and Westfield's former HC is on staff. Great get for them

Yup. [deleted] Houston.
If this was us, the NCAA would already be digging through Morris trashcans at 4 am.

Re: Big get (literally) for the Coogs
Tom's a great recruiter, especially in Texas. Hoping he'll be back at OSU in about 10 years to take over the HC gig. But the real reasons he landed this kid is his brother plays at Houston and high school head coach is on the staff now, not too complicated. I do know it will be a struggle to hold onto him through NSD, Saban is after him hard too.
Herman also landed a really nice QB prospect. I'm sure the new stadium and coming off a natty doesn't hurt the recruiting front either. Still, huge get for Houston. I can't even remember Houston ever being relevant in football though?
