This came up on another board about 3 times in a few days and seems to be a common misunderstanding about comparing this Class with other Classes-since I took the time to investigate the numbers (again) I thought I'd share here too
Historical 3+ Star Texas Recruits:
2007-156 (Phil Bennett)
2008-163
2009-212 (June Jones First Full Class)
2010-288
2011-271
2012-273
2013-197
2014-152
2015-162 (Chad Morris First Class)
2016-143
While not exactly accurate-a 5.4 2 star today would more likely be considered a 5.5 3 star in the grade inflated 2010-2012 period (aka "The Steroid Era")

Re: Historical Rivals 3+ Stars
also not entirely accurate but useful for demonstration-assuming there were approximately 375 Texas high school Division 1A recruits then the following percentages of the Class were considered 3+ Stars
2007-41%
2008-43%
2009-57%
2010-77%
2011-72%
2012-73%
2013-53%
2014-43%
2015-43%
2016-38% (incomplete)
So the number of 3+ stars in the collective Texas crop in some of those early June Jones years is about twice as much as currently graded 3 stars in the Class of 2016
2007-41%
2008-43%
2009-57%
2010-77%
2011-72%
2012-73%
2013-53%
2014-43%
2015-43%
2016-38% (incomplete)

Re: Historical Rivals 3+ Stars
SMU currently has 9 commits rated 5.4 (2 star) or above. Most but maybe not all would be considered a 3+ Star during the "Steroid Era".

Re: Historical Rivals 3+ Stars
This might be unfair, but who might have been a three star that we were pumped about under the previous regime that would actually have been a two star under these standards?

Re: Historical Rivals 3+ Stars
well I pulled the high school 5.5 3 stars from that inflated 2010 Class-they likely would have been 2 stars under the current rating scale
