Is there an equation for this or does the figure just represent what each University is willing to spend. I would guess by looking at the numbers posted in the article it is the latter, but I really don't know. Can someone help me out?

There was a meeting during bball season w the BOTs MC and AD where the amount was discussed. I wish I could remember the # but I can't. I want to say it was between 3500-4500 but don't quote me. We will find out sooner or later. We were right there w most AAC schools.. Most I remember was ~5-5500. Don't remember who it was.

Yep. I've never heard a number lower than even $4K so I'm not buying this $2,700.

You almost have to break out the academic side, the athletic side and then the misc side to get a true price and "quality of education picture". If an athlete just cares about staying eligible and getting as much money in the short term then these are helpful numbers although I doubt accurate. Otherwise lets look at the cost of education for a year at SMU including summer school (2 sessions) paid for. $70,000 at SMU plus the stipend compared to UT, TAM, UNT, UTSAN, Texas Southern at $30,000 plus the stipend. Over a 4-5 year period SMU is ahead over $150,000 and that does not even include the value that you can't put a price-tag on....that beautiful campus, not just part of 50,000 students jammed into a concrete jungle such as at UT and TAM and in a great city with so much to do with pro sports and the hottest job market in the USA.
