How does this benefit Nic in any way beyond travel? He has exposure.

His life should revolve around two things going into his senior year, SMU basketball and getting a payday. This doesn't help him do either.

Thank you.

Larry does so much for Self, Cal, ect. It's very impressive on his part, but I'm not entirely sure that it is reciprocated from them. If Cal and Self would gush about Larry and SMU a quarter as much as Larry does about Kansas and UK our national perception would benefit tenfold.

Yes, make it a two way street.

I would argue that Nic is getting zero exposure with this. I had never heard of this random university games tournament until SMU announced Nic was going with KU. It's not like he's on the Olympic team or something.
At this point, since he's already participating, I just want him to come back healthy.

I've stayed pretty quiet on this since it involves KU, but honestly my opinion is the same regardless of what team he would be playing with (KU, Kentucky, Arizona...). Whether we like it or not, most of the sporting world knows very little about SMU, and those that do, know it as a "cheater school". While the WUG isn't the Olympics, the team is representing the U.S. and will be the only show in town this Summer. Moreover, a lot of fans (even outside of KU) are talking about Nic and SMU.

On balance this is a good thing for Nic and SMU. I understand the risks around injury and the fact that he's not at home playing pick-up games, but on balance this is a good opportunity for both SMU and Nic. Zero chance Coach Brown "loans" him to Coach Self unless this is true.

He will be back like July 16th. Relax. Hopefully his skills will be tested and pushed while having this new experience under a future HOF coach. He's one of my favorite feisty players to wear the SMU jersey. He had two chances in the UCLA game to win it after "the call". I thought that second one was going in!! Hopefully he will be put in some more pressure type situations in these games that will be more useful than playing pickup with the current team and football players. I don't think the freshman enroll till next month anyways.

Coach Brown also thinks AI should be in the Sixers front office about a week after after stating his suspicion that Iverson was drunk at the 'practice' rant.. Don't get me wrong, the man is great, love the Godfather dearly, but he's getting close to needing his mic taken away and some of his decisions questioned. This isn't PR nor a real tourney or USA basketball wouldn't be sending Kansas, no offense. It's 3 weeks to a month he's traveling, playing mostly meaningless games w/a program he has no relation to w/a handful of practices thrown in. That's not putting in work, that's taking your eye off the ball.

It's funny some of you relate summer work w/pick-up.

I feel loved here ... but I’m a Mustang at heart

Coach Brown (Larry, current SMU coach/former KU coach) let me know in his office one day. He said I had an opportunity to be able to play with KU and represent the United States. To be able to hear that from him and for KU to accept me, like I said, it was an honor

http://www2.kusports.com/news/2015/jun/15/short-timer-ku-pick-honor-smus-nic-moore/

You know, with all the talk of power program coaches reaching out to Nic last season.. I am starting to think Coach Brown was throwing him a bone here. Nic feels he still has to prove himself, and wants to be on the biggest stage to prove it. Larry gets him on KU for the summer, and everyone is happy.

Just a thought.

How do you know it is just a glorified vacation?

b/c it's a nothing tourney as verified by USA hoops sending Kansas as opposed to fielding a team. Most programs go overseas once every 4 yrs and it's mostly r&r w/a smattering of practices and a few games.

I have no real problem with him playing but since teams (schools) are only allowed a trip every x number of years, are we either committing a violation with Nic going or sacrificing a full team trip in the near future?

So by your logic KU will not be doing summer work over the next month including Nic. Self is just going to them jack around. No wonder Kansas sucks at basketball.

That's a tough take. It really is. People act like if he wasn't playing in this tourney that Nic would be sitting around wearing bubble wrap. The exposure to a different staff is enormously valuable to Nic as a player, as is the knowledge he can play with anybody. He and we will be better off for it.
