Chip Brown...not a fan of Texas AD Steve Pattersonhttp://www.scout.com/college/texas/stor ... acing-heat
Methinks Steve Patterson may not serve out that 5-year contract in Austin 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Chip Brown...not a fan of Texas AD Steve PattersonNothing exposes their insane arrogance quite like the "we are going global with our brand" b.s. Dubai? Really? That just screams out of touch with reality.
Re: Chip Brown...not a fan of Texas AD Steve PattersonWhat stands out is the tight connection to the PAC12. more handwriting on the wall that UT sees the PAC12 as their long term conference. OU will go the SEC.
I think both OU and UT want out of the Big 12 once their GOR expires. Which explains why the Big 12 hasn't been able to poach another P5 to join the league. The other schools know how fragile it is. Pony 81
Re: Chip Brown...not a fan of Texas AD Steve Patterson"Dubai is a vital center of international branding for Texas."
And you wonder why people hate you.
Re: Chip Brown...not a fan of Texas AD Steve PattersonNot sure I agree w/the title of this thread. This isn't an Op/Ed piece. This is a pretty well sourced story with multiple people going on the record to discuss their dissatisfaction.
It must be pretty bad if it gets to this point. Some fascinating behind the scenes stuff, though. ![]()
Re: Chip Brown...not a fan of Texas AD Steve Patterson
Probably want to sell more T shirts. ![]() SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Chip Brown...not a fan of Texas AD Steve Patterson
Fair enough....but I don't think Chip writes this piece and goes to lengths to interview the people he did if he thinks Patterson is doing a good job at UT 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Chip Brown...not a fan of Texas AD Steve PattersonUT's refusal to play A&M in football (and I am no Aggie sympathizer) is one of the most chicken*&^% things I have ever seen. Now I get a picture of the mindset that continues this sort of nonsense. UT is in a bubble surrounded by so much money and arrogance that they may become irrelevant to everyone except their own self-inflated fans. I think that there is little chance that Charlie Strong will make UT a contender for a national championship, but I almost feel sorry for him if Reed's story is accurate.
Re: Chip Brown...not a fan of Texas AD Steve Patterson
In all fairness, not playing A&M probably has more to do with recruiting than being scared to play. If A&M had stubbed its toe out of the gate instead of having JFF the conversation would probably be much different. But ultimately if schools in Texas wouldn't play A&M that would mean much harder travel to watch games for parents and friends. LSU being the closest conference game. And to be fair. I'd probably be doing the same thing if I was UT. Try to expand the brand everywhere. Only a handful of schools could even imagine this and UT is one of them. If we were in there shoes we'd act the same way. But since we aren't in their shoes. Screw those self righteous [deleted]!! Enjoy the west coast.

Sounds a little bit like SMU in the 80's, just saying "[College] referees couldn't manage a White Castle." -Mark Cuban
Re: Chip Brown...not a fan of Texas AD Steve PattersonThat situation looks dysfunctional and ugly. Maybe Patterson can turn it around, time will tell.
Re: Chip Brown...not a fan of Texas AD Steve Patterson
Not playing A&M has nothing to do with being scared to play them or the brand. It is 100% about how TAMU handled the exit from the B12. While many people think TAMU left for more money, they did not. They left the B12 out of spite and as part of a plan to @@@ the Longhorns. Imagine your ex-wife was @@@ing someone behind your back, would you invite them to Thanksgiving Dinner? Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Chip Brown...not a fan of Texas AD Steve PattersonA&M chancellor Sharp on alcohol at events: "Our athletic program has not reached the point where we require the numbing effects of alcohol."
Re: Chip Brown...not a fan of Texas AD Steve Patterson
There is nothing sacred about the Big 12. A&M is in the better conference. UT would have been more than welcome to join. And sure it has to do with recruiting. Over time UT would probably continue to win most of those games. It is chicken(*&^ because now they NEVER lost to A&M and can continue to spew about how they are the state's flagship team.
Re: Chip Brown...not a fan of Texas AD Steve Patterson
1) UT didn't and doesn't need TAMU's help to join any conference it wants. In terms of desireabilty, Texas is a Supermodel and TAMU is a Soccer Mom. 2) Before it left the B12, TAMU took steps in an attempt to @@@@ Texas over with respect to revenue sharing, power, and the LHN. Although UT and the other B12 teams made compromises to placate the Aggies, the Aggies @@@@ everyone over and acted like douchers. 3) if you haven't noticed, the other B12 teams aren't lining up to schedule the Aggies. There is a bitterness that goes well beyond recruiting, money, or bragging rights. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
