Martin is amazing! There were many great efforts by individuals last night, but Martin's stood out to me. He had 21 carries for 95 yards. I would love to know how many yards he had after being hit, sometimes for the second and third time. He is a thrill to watch, especially when he puts his arm out and makes tacklers look silly.
He needs 148 yds to break the freshman season rushing record. It would be great to get him the carries he deserves next week, and it's a shame he didn't play against Baylor. Great job, DeMyron!
it drives me crazy
he should have gotten more carries why bother with dorsey or massey? getting yards after contact is DM's specialty - he gets 3-4 yards when another back would lose 2
I talked to Demyron last night and although he was tired, when I asked him about his yards left, he didn't seem so positive on the possibility of getting them. I hope that Phil does the right thing and plays him a lot during next weeks game, its the least he can do.
GO RED!
GO BLUE! GO MUSTANGS! S-M-U!
It's human nature, when a young guy has a big game(s), to start to speculate. How good is this guy? What kind of numbers can he put up? Will he break the standard set by so-and-so?
With that in mind, who's the last SMU freshman to show as much promise as Martin? I don't mean hype coming out of high school or out of the redshirt year, I mean excitement and potential shown in the first year ON the field? My initial guess was ShanDerrick Charles, but Martin is bigger and stronger, and presumably will enjoy better health. And as good as ShanD was, I think Martin is better. Come to think of it, I can't think of a post-DP freshman who has gotten me as excited about the future as Martin. Who am I forgetting here?
I assume you didn't listen to the game or you wouldn't have to ask that question. Yes, Columbus played and had a couple of passes go right through his hands. He will get better...he is just a freshman.
Give me a freshman who can get open 40 yards deep but only catches the ball 50% of the time over a senior with a lifetime 8-9 yards per catch average any day. Why do you think we are last in offense-it is because we don't have enough players who can make big plays. Consider for a moment how this is possible. None of the following have a TD catch during the entire season: Kennedy, Foster, Sledge, Warren or Cleveland. Pellerin has 1 TD catch. Lowery who had 6 catches and a TD in two weeks proceeded to be benched and hasn't even seen the field since. You want to know why we are last in Total Offense? Start with Rusty Burns passing game, his choice of personnel at QB and WR.
