This is an excellent blueprint on several conditions. Those conditions are that the assistant coach actually be hired as the next head coach and that he have the credibility to sustain recruiting. Most fail and rather quickly. Thinking back, I cannot recall any time where a valued and loyal assistant coach ever was successful replacing a high profile head coach. Success is usually achieved by bringing in another high profile and successful head coach to maintain a program.
