I was not implying that the previous staffs recruited like this. I said that this current staff's recruiting is definitely an upgrade from previous staffs. I said there was a hiatus in recruiting betweem Bennett and Chad Morris though...since we did not have any recruiting going on from 2008-2014 lol

As long as we are in the top 1/4 of G5 teams I'm happy. We were the most outscored team in CFB history through 7 games last year, so he's killing it IMO.

Unless you're talking five and maybe four star players, legitimate offers and fit to scheme are the ONLY things that matter when ranking a class. A legitimate offer means that the team offering isn't reaching to fill a slot or the offer hasn't been rescinded because the school found a better player at that position. Seems to me this can only be tallied late in the recruiting cycle.

I like what Morris is doing, where this is headed, and expect the Texas high school relationships being built, or really maintained since Morris has deep, deep roots, will dovetail nicely with increased success on the field. I like where we are. 2.18 average stars is a deeply misleading statistic.

And we should look at this from another angle. TCU, who I deeply despise and yet admire greatly, has built what they've built despite these recruiting rankings. Same for Baylor.

If we're still at 2.18 on signing day, and Houston, UCF, USF, and Cincy are all higher, that's not good enough. Any excuses otherwise are simply confirmation bias.

Morris is obviously better than June in every way, but the numbers don't lie. Over time, if we recruit middle of the pack, good chance we play and rank middle of the pack. And that's only in our own conference.

Avg. stars and offers were always 2 of Stallions favorite barometers for TCU classes, if I recall correctly.

And, if I recall correctly, last season we were 1-11. And Coach Morris wasn't hired until most prospects had already committed to other schools. Our coaching staff did a great job in the circumstances.

The quality of recruiting classes will continue to improve when we start winning football games.

I've said repeatedly to ignore Rivals scoring system in comparing classes as long as only 143 recruits are rated 3+ stars in Texas and I've clearly articulated why it can't be used to compare classes based on the numbers. As far as offers from Division 1A schools and BCS/P5 schools I'm pretty sure this class will rank at or near the top of any SMU post-DP Class

Year by year, class by class, these numbers will climb like our prospects. How they fit into the scheme is key. We will continue to improve, even when improving takes more than fogging a mirror like it started off with this year.

It's all relative isn't it. Who cares if this is the absolute best SMU class post-DP........if it ranks 4th or 5th in our own league?

Again, Morris is great, and it's a long way from signing day, so we'll see how it plays out.

For lack of a better phrase, holy [deleted] jackhole! We are less than 8 months removed from the only win last season. We are less than 1 year removed from both a complete ass-kicking from UNT and the head coach slinking out of town like the second coming of Baltimore, 20 Jan 1984. This isn't a Pres. election with 4 years and a new slate after Mondale almost lost to a dog...this is recruiting kids who have everyone in their ear and on twitter reminding them they are going to a team that was historically bad last season. And these kids, who we are recruiting to turn this crapstorm around try to rescue a program with their new brethren who have been lost as sea for some time now and have been rudderless for over a year, they believe they can play and start within 2-3 year elsewhere. But due to the convictions and sales job of a team of coaches, and a school, and those coaches...these kids have chosen to come here. So yeah, we are taking some "fliers" on some lower ranked guys whose major attributes fit the scheme, and thus their perceived weaknesses might not hamper them as much here, because they took a flyer on us. We are offering big names, and we are in the running for their decision, but more frequent than not that end decision does not include anything other than "SMU was a great offer because of the school and the coaches, but I decided to go elsewhere." Well, in a few years, with more wins in a season than your average bomb maker has fingers, we will be getting those 3 and 4 star players more consistently. Why? Because we will have won with consistency, delivered with consistency, and done it against a quality field of opponents with solid play. So yes, it is relative...just like everyone is day-to-day...embrace it and understand it and move with it. Or, tell jr. to go back to Vandy...I hear their future is bright.

With all this talk, you better go out and beat Louisville.

I wish SMU would play Louisville with a home and home. That city is awesome.

Looking at Scout, only four AAC teams have more than five commitments:
1. UH 2.82 avg rating w/ 11 commitments (2.44 excl. Oliver/Elliott)
2. Cincinnati 2.50 w/ 10 commitments
3. SMU 2.38 w/ 16 commitments
4. ECU 2.17 w/ 6 commitments

To show how far we've come in a very short period of time -- in 2014 (last class of you know who), SMU signed 4 players with P5 offers and 9 players with no BCS offers other than SMU.
