Navy Fans Visiting SMUFirst off, I think I can speak on behalf of all Navy fans that we are thrilled to be joining the AAC and, more specifically, the AAC West this season. We are looking forward to continuing the growing Navy-SMU rivalry for years to come.
My friends and I (all Navy fans/grads) will be joining you as you take on the Baylor Bears Friday, September 4th this year. We run a podcast (Four Point Stance) and a weak website/twitter page that is in serious need of an update. One of our members, Justin, is the Navy writer for Underdog Dynasty and I saw a topic you all started regarding his most recent article. He was at AAC media day and spoke highly of the interaction he had with everyone from SMU. We will be adopted SMU fans for the night, pulling for our AAC brothers (we are actually in town for 3 games, the Dallas-Houston preseason game and the Bama-Wisconsin game Saturday night, as well). It is our hope to meet up with some other SMU tailgating fans, so we can experience SMU to the fullest. We would love to talk Navy football for those interested and find out more about what type of team you think SMU will field this fall. We all agree that Chad Morris was an excellent hire and wonder what type of impact that may make for in-state recruiting in Texas (his previous HS experience in TX has to help). Please let us know of any special events occurring that Friday or anything that may make that game-day experience one-of-a-kind. Thanks for your time and good luck!
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMUI think you guys will fall in love with the Boulevard. Show up about 3-4 hours before game time and walk around.
Do a google image search for "boulevard SMU football" and enjoy.
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMUWelcome aboard. Glad to have Navy in the conference. Our biggest hope in regards to Navy is that our new coaching staff will know how to defend against the Navy offense. Our previous run of coaches could never figure it out.
Yes, come early and enjoy our brand of tailgating. We don't tailgate, we Boulevard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8GsvbEhi5U SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMU
Welcome to the board, and thanks for coming to show support for a conference mate. (sorry, can't say Beat Army for you as i have West Point family). Regarding the boulevard, here's a link to an info page. if you open the map, the majority of the activity is the red line running north/south through the middle of campus. it's a tree lined parkway and everyone is very friendly. we all have our groups and may appear inclusive, but don't be intimidated to come up and introduce yourself, grab a beer and food, and be sure to share the experience on your blog for other navy fans so that when we host Navy, they know how fun it can be. Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMUWelcome aboard, NavyFans4P5. You will enjoy the Boulevard, it is as unique as there rest of the campus is beautiful.
Most here will save the teasing till the week of the game with the Middies, but I will tell you that I am grateful for the renewing of game that has some roots to both of our teams. ...and for every Marine, thanks for the nice ride to the next battle... ..and thank you for being a part of training the greatest Navy in the world. I appreciate your service, and the men and women that will serve the Fleet. stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMUAnybody remember the Navy flyover a few years back? Bush 43 was there too. Awesome day other than final score.
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMUThat was pretty awesome. What I also thought was awesome was the first time navy played here.. The OT game? Maybe we are talking about the same game.. Anyway, when they announced GWB it was really moving-politics aside-how the Navy contingent erupted for their former commander in chief.
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMUI have seen 2 Navy fly overs. The first one was so low and so loud the stadium shook. 2nd one was high and no afterburners or whatever it is called. Still impressive but my guess is HP and UP said no more after the first one. My ears are still ringing but it was great.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMUOur last 9 games against Navy we are 1-8, so hopefully we can win a few to make this a more competitive rivalry.
Of course we do share one thing in common. The most beloved athlete in Navy and Dallas history is Roger Staubach, whom I suspect will be in attendance (maybe the 1963 SMU team will show up as well). Rumor has it we will be wearing our Blue Jerseys to honor the Midshipmen.
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMUAnchors aweigh.

Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMU
I believe the first one was the year after 9/11 and the neighbors were terrified when the jets came in low over their houses. They actually made two passes that day. The first pass was relatively low, but the second one looked like they were just above the press box level and moving so slow I was surprised they could stay in the air at that speed. The planes looked like they were about six feet apart from each other. Just amazing...and then they set off the after burners as they left the stadium. Wow! Best fly over I have ever seen. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMUThank you for posting here and for your comments.
We welcome Navy and hope you win every game you play, except when you play us of course. The general consensus here is of patient optimism for our football program. We all generally agree that the hiring of Chad Morris was an absolute home run (and a long time coming). Personally, I think we will be very good very soon. This year will be interesting, but I expect 2016 and certainly 2017 to be banner post DP years for our program with even a possible top 25 finish by 2017.
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMU
it's because they run that damn triple-option offense, which is really the only thing a service academy can pull off b/c no one else sees it, and it doesn't require high level athletes (in terms of skill/ability) at skill positions - namely receiver and QB. it's hard to prepare for b/c your scout team basically has to learn an entirely new offense for only one week of the year. at least since they're in our division we will be better prepared knowing we will play them every season (for the foreseeable future that is ![]() Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
