Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMUSMU should be better equipped to give Navy a game in the future because our defense isn't practicing against a Run N Shoot team and our offensive line actually will drive block off the line rather than retreating with pass blocking on 90% of its plays

Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMU
Well it looks like we will be learning more about the Boulevard for our trip! Thanks for everyone's input and truly excited to join the AAC. I think SMU will improve considerably under Morris over the next few years and I know I look forward to seeing what he can do as a HC. In regards to your comment about the TO not requiring "high level athletes at skill positions," I think I would have to disagree. A different skill-set? Yes. But implying that it requires a lower level of skill isn't entirely fair. The unique upside to being arguably the best (GT also deserves a mention) TO team in the nation, is that the staff can recruit players that are familiar with that system in high school. Most TO HS players do not get the recruitment recognition (stars) because they do not fit the typical FBS or NFL style offense. Trust me, these players are still very skilled "at skill positions."
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMUyep you have to remember the jitterbug running QB might be a 5.1 2 star for most schools but running the Navy offense can be a 4 star for them. 70% of teams might not even recruit more than a couple of FBs leaving some great FBs available to Navy-20% might not employ a TE much. SMU went after a bunch of mini-me Receivers who were definite 3 stars in SMU's Run N Shoot but were 5.2 2 Stars for 80% of the schools in the Country looking for bigger, stronger Receivers. That's one aspect of recruiting that is really overlooked-niche recruiting finding the right athlete that fits your scheme. A Top 100 List for an SEC(run dominate), Big 12 (pass dominate), Navy or SMU (under June Jones) would look completely different. The lists you see on Rivals are really based on the proto-type athlete at the typical P5 team-but none of them ran the wishbone or the Run N Shoot-heck until recently none of them ran a 4-2-5
You can imagine the difference between a WR target list between Chad Morris and June Jones. That's why a lot of June's leftover really don't have much of a shot in the new offense-they just don't fit and especially don't have the blocking skill-set necessary to play in Chad's offense. Luckily Sutton and Gaines(as a TE) do "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMUthank goodness we didn't score 50 points in that game...epic moment at Ford.
stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMUI loved that day also but it did kind of make me feel like an aggie.
And that flyover was epic. Heard from UP police they had over 50 calls within 2 minutes - certain there was a terrorist attract going on at SMU. Navy dudes - what is your advice for visitors to Annapolis? I have actually heard the crowd is not very friendly to visitors - is there a better place to be if you are just wanting friendly fan banter vs idiot smack?
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMU
It was the highlight of the start of the Bennet era as the we lost the first 7 games of his head coaching career. The game was pretty well attended as over 25K came out to see the Mustangs score 7 points that evening. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Peruna is my mascot!
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMU
That game was a beat down and didn't bode well for the rest of the season...although we played both TCU and Tech (that game was still taken away from us when they didn't call the KK run a TD that would have put us up) tough after that. #Beat Clemson
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMU
lol love the parkies. "Hey, even though the school was there first and is responsible for nearly a century of exponential property growth and we willingly moved next to a major university... we don't like loud noises we don't like alcohol we don't like big parties or events we don't want big time athletics interfering with our neighborhood we don't want the Bush library we don't like students parking on the streets
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMU
The home game crowd is typically an older crowd. I have never seen them unfriendly towards visitors, unless you are standing up in front of them. It is a unique atmosphere, but it definitely lacks the usual crowd excitement. It pains me to say that. Annapolis is a beautiful city if you have never been. The trick is to go downtown the Friday night before and for a few drinks the day of the game. There are a lot of old bars on cobblestone streets that are right by the water. Downtown Annapolis connects with the campus, so a quick self-tour of the campus is a must. The stadium is about a mile outside of the campus gates, but you will see plenty of people walking around that general area all the time. Tailgating is fun and you will see a lot of groups tailgating with their respective graduating class. Each class has a flag that hangs and says their graduation year. No alcohol in the stadium, but they do allow you to go back to your tailgate at halftime. This often leads to fans staying in the parking lot the remainder of the game and usually thins out the crowd (unfortunately). All 4200 students will march onto the field about 30 minutes before the game for the March-On. Something worth seeing if making the trip!
Re: Navy Fans Visiting SMUAnnapolis is great. I'm seriously thinking of going to the game this year. I went a few years back when we crapped the bed in the second half and continued our losing streak to service academies. Had a great time. Wonderful fans.
Back off Warchild seriously.
