There will come a day when our fans take up most of the seats if CM does his thing.

The standard estimates typically seen on here for the A&M/Baylor/Tech/TCU games highly underrate the amount of SMU fans.

Sadly, I watched part of the SMU-A&M game from 1982 on Youtube the other night. Verne Lundquist (skinny at the time) was the play-by-play guy and lamented that we were having attendance problems despite being 7-0 and ranked Number 5 or 6 in the country. We had just beaten UT at their place. Our biggest home crowd of the year, despite Dickerson and James starring in their Senior year, had been 31K vs. TCU. That crowd wouldn't have filled Ford. I was at that Aggie game (Homecoming) in person and I doubt that the actual paid attendance was more than 35K. A majority of them Aggies of course.

Unfortunately, Topper is accurate - lack of attendance has been a cultural issue for decades.

How many years of success had the pony express been through? 79-82 or just 4 years of being really good?

In the late 60's when Mrydel and others on this board were roaming the campus, we had some very good teams - still an apathetic fan base

Focus on the product on the field not the attendance. Except for games against big opponents Ford will never be full, we just don't draw the crowds.

A full house will be a new thing for virtually all of our returning players...I think they shine, for a time, in the spotlight. It will be a great day when the concept of a full house is not the exception (half full of the opposition or not).

I think Ponysnob was talking about a full house with half of it being Baylor fans. I hope the SMU fans can cheer the loudest.

If the Pony Express had played at Ford I bet the place would have been packed because a campus venue is hard to beat if the product is good. We have not had a great team play on campus in ages so it is an unknown.

I am not sure about that. We do not have enough students to fill 2 sections at Ford and the average Dallasite does not know where to park and is not familiar with the area. When we played at Texas Stadium, everyone knew where it was and parking was right there. I love the campus stadium, but I really believe it hurts with the Dallas average Joe. Being a small stadium is a plus.

Amen!

AAC championship would be cool. Should be able to compete for 1 or 2 before Morris leaves. If we can keep up with Houston recruiting.
