I was kind of joking in another way.

Proche was a great leader for getting the 2015 class together, and seemed very intent on gaining admissions to the B-school. He would have added more needed depth at WR but this gives him a chance to square away his academics and help WR depth in the long run. I know everyone wants to win right now, but being forced to redshirt one of your top WR recruits that would only have played limited time the first year isn't the worse thing. Also the fact SMU admitted a student athlete that the NCAA later declared ineligible is further proof that the admin is committed to HCCM, not that I think Proche is a bad student, he seems to be more a victim of Prime Prep. I hope his kidney issue doesn't reemerge.

yeah I don't think Proche is really a bad student from my understanding. My understanding is that the NCAA simply has rejected just about all the credits earned by any student athlete that attended Prime Prep. Just about every kid that went to Prime Prep has had a flag put on him by the NCAA Clearinghouse. Over the last 3 years I can name at least 5 Prime Prep kids initially flagged by the NCAA Clearinghouse. Generally, the kids who were at Prime Prep for 1 year were eventually allowed to play as freshman after being flagged. Proche transferred to Desoto for his Senior year but I believe he was there for 2 years. Just about every Prime Prep athlete has had to seek an NCAA waiver to clear the NCAA requirements-the longer they were at Prime Prep the harder it was for them to pass the NCAA Clearinghouse. This might well have been the fate of Mudiay too since he spent 2 years at Prime Prep

There is no real controversy about SMU's standards any more since it is undisputed that SMU admitted both Mudiay and Proche REGARDLESS of the NCAA requirements. Essentially SMU admitted Proche and would have admitted Mudiay as NON-QUAILIFIERS who would have had to sit out their freshman year. SMU got a waiver for Proche so he can practice with the team

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
