George W. Bush
Would W. want to become SMU's president when RGT retires. And/or, would the Board/Regents ask him ?
Thoughts ?

Interesting, but his post presidency style has been pretty much to stay in the background.

Re: George W. Bush
Maybe we can rename SMU the George W Bush University with University President George W Bush, which is on Bush Ave next to the Bush library, which is just off of Bush Expressway (75) in the Bush section of Dallas.

RGT will retire AK Pye style. And I don't mean that badly - just don't see him leaving anytime soon.

I'm really appreciative of what RGT has done here, but we do need some fresh blood once Unbridled wraps up.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Re: George W. Bush
Bush would not want to take the job and I don't think we would want that. Regardless of political affiliation, having W as your pres would not help our national ranking since most of them are lefties and already don't like the library. A political choice has not helped Baylor for example.
I think RGT has about 4 more years - then some sort of transition. I can see him wanting to have a hand in helping choose his successor.
Agree we need some new blood - but the most urgent is in the Business school. Neimi has been great but we could be so much better - particularly in the MBA program.

RGT will bow out gracefully in a few years after he wraps up his unprecedented $1.5 billion dollar combined campaigns. He will chair the committee to find the next new hand shaker and bring his grandkids to all the basketball and FB games and get standing ovations.

Love Dubya but he would not be a good choice and knowing what I know of his life post-Presidency, I highly doubt he'd want it, either.
I think RGT is here to stay for awhile

He isn't going anywhere and the board is fine and dandy with that.........Agree that Niemi needs to be put out to pasture. He has badly fumbled his stewardship of the business school. He is a great pr guy but in terms of driving improvement of Cox, well below average........

Frankly our business and law school rankings should be SURGING with all of the growth and job opportunities in the DFW area, especially relative to the rest of the nation

Absolutely. Dallas is leading the country in job and population growth. SMU should be seeing a quantum leap forward across all metrics.East Coast Mustang wrote:Frankly our business and law school rankings should be SURGING with all of the growth and job opportunities in the DFW area, especially relative to the rest of the nation
