That would make sense because he IS the current AD, on an interim basis.

Why would you make your head football coach the interim AD for 6 months exclusively during football season? Barry Alvarez syndrome?

I bet UCF goes after a big name. They believe they are in the front of the line for a P5 spot, and they may be right. Their resume:

2013 BCS win over Baylor. Also, beat Georgia in the 2010 Liberty Bowl
Three conference championships in the last five years
They rank 2nd in home attendance in the AAC (at 83% capacity)
In a great market - Orlando

I think he will promote from within. Keeps the successful train rolling and O'Leary won't want to put his assistants on the street looking for new jobs.
