Chad showed me the offense I hated watching us try to defend against when he was at
Tulsa :!: :!: :!:

I think Baylor had the same problems.....for awhile...... Bennett needs to grow back his
stache

I noticed a lot of players refusing water during a time out. That is not good, and may have
resulted in Matt's leg cramps :!: I've run very long distance races, and took water at every
station whether I was thirsty or not :!:
May the forth be with us.

I have said it to a number of my friends, playing Baylor this year is like scheduling Ohio State in most years. This is a top five college team. They are bigger athletes and have more depth.

We scored 21 points and should have had at least 28. We have a quarterback, and some fine sophomore and freshman receivers. We have an offensive scheme that can work very well during conference play. I thought our offensive line play was actually pretty good.

Defense was frustrating, but will improve. I was disappointed in the tackling of our linebackers--maybe just everyone. But, Baylor was big and fast. They will score this many points on a number of ranked teams this year. Their wide receivers may just be the best in the country, big and fast.

Best thing about this game, a number of players were mad! That is right mad that they had this many yards run up against them. Without good coaching, a team with better players and less quality coaching would have given up. And maybe packed it in for the season. These guys are not going to quit and I believe will win several games this year. Any recruit that saw this game should see what the potential our program has and what support from the students and fans could become.

OP - I assume you are just trying to be provacative, because I'm pretty sure you watched last year's games. Do you not remember what happened in our pre-AAC games last year? No improvement over that? Are you kidding me? Please re-watch SMU/UNT 2014 and come back to us

If you watched this game I have no idea how you can think this is just like previous matchups. Ask any Baylor fan what they thought. We had them freaking out at halftime when the game should've been tied. The final score didn't show it because we currently don't have the depth to compete with a team like Baylor.

I agree.

Good friend of mine who was the starting Baylor QB and played in the NFL for six or seven years was very impressed with SMU. When I asked him what he thought, his comment was, "Crazy. They are gonna be good, SMU is the real deal. Morris is gonna have them really good very soon".

Take off the rose colored glasses, please.

Yeah, we're much better. That's obvious and the OP says so. But it WAS the same story as usual. We hang around for a while, make it interesting, then the wheels come off and it turns into a dumpster fire.

Are you kidding me? Baylor makes a lot of teams look like [deleted], including ranked teams! Do we need to remind you how they beat teams like Oklahoma 48-14 in Norman?

If your takeaway from last night was same song, different verse then I feel bad for you.

I said that I saw VAST improvement and am very excited about the future under HCCM.

However, if one is "happy" with 750 yards of offense against you (I don't care if it's the freakin' Dallas Cowboys), giving up 56 freakin' points and leaving AT LEAST 10 points on the field, then I feel bad for you.

Time to change the culture around here! THERE ARE NO MORAL VICTORIES. Lock arms. Pony Up!

The alcohol has been purged from my system, I'm well rested, I rewatched the highlights and still feel the same way. I saw some really really good things and am very excited. AND let's not start sucking our own dicks quite yet. Time to hammer down and blow the [deleted] out of NTSU. Hope the SMU turn out is just as good, including the students' energy. I'll be there loud and proud for sure.

I think we probably have close to the same opinion. I think it's just the way you presented and seem to dwell on the negative when there was a lot more good. Next week should be fun.

Uhhhh, the offense was vastly improved (your QB doesn't get cramps from excessive 3-and-outs) and the defense was improved (if even slightly, the starters were improved). A few tackles and better DB marking and this game has an even crazier ending. While we faded in the 2nd half...what the hell do you expect from a team with a new defensive scheme and average-mediocre level players?

I understand, we all understand, that absent the freshmen you have the same skill. So you see the talent level drop off precipitously after the starters get gassed. So yes...like pretty much every team, we saw what we expected based on the athletic limitations of the prior years players Having said that, this was a sea change from prior seasons as a whole-team performance. There was excitement from the beginning of the game. They even have a coach willing to take the blame on his shoulders and praise the players for what they brought against a top 5 team.

Pretty sure everyone is responding as they are because...unlike past seasons, you can't help but leave this first game with a sense of excitement and hope for the season, not a foreboding sense of despair for the depressing future you know is coming. In this case...there is no similarity with the past few seasons.

I'm not so sure the Defense showed measurable improvement last nite-they did do well for about 3 series in 2nd Q after Baylor put up 28 points in first 4 possessions. SMU offense took some pressure off the Defense by not going 3 and out in the first half. If they had like last year it could have been NAME YOUR SCORE

Some true stallion points in light of the above :

DB an issue
Hardest to recruit dline
We can see where recruiting on D was deficient and that's not only on June but on the guy who "recruited most of these guys myself"

Can't ever be satisfied with a loss...particularly a loss against Baylor...BUT:

last night proved we did not "pencil-in a loss" from the staff or the players.-SUCCESS.

All the rest of the stuff can be corrected by work, recruiting, and development.
