Guys, having watched the game on TV, you could hear the Mustang band and our students. Maybe TV had microphones positioned so it would sound that way.

The band are our most ardent student support group and should be moved to better yardline seats. It is going to look silly when the stadium is 3/4 empty and the band is crammed into that corner over there.

The stadium won't be 3/4 empty if they keep getting better. Love these eternal pessimists we have here on pf

Band / Student Section

Postby smusic 00 » Sat Sep 05, 2015 7:03 pm

We definitely won over some neutral fans last night and the students were a big part of it. I brought three first timers who each called me this morning to thank me and tell me how much fun they had and can't wait to come back.

Hope you are right but last night was our biggest attendance night of the year and there was still plenty of margin to move the band to a better location. Anyone who was at the SMU/UCF Ford Stadium game the week after we beat TCU and recieved votes for the top 25 for the first time after the death penalty would be similarly pessimistic or realistic in my case. The turnout was an embarrassment. We have argued ticket sale strategies on this board for years and I still havent heard anyone explain how we are going to fill the place up absent playing an regional P5 state school that travels well.

Maybe have a team that plays exciting football like TCU and Baylor have done and managed to fill their places?

All it takes is for the word to spread and you get Ford magic. I wouldn't judge by only the UCF game...SMU tanked the rest of the season and ended 7-5...they did not look competitive vs A&M. The tiki ain't no briles or patterson and did not care to engage our fanbase the way those coaches did and CM is doing here.

And I think a lot of people underestimate the damage the DP did to SMU. It's as if SMU has had 2 different programs before and after it...and the one after it has been a mid level CUSA team at best. I hope this year that program from 1989-2014 has finally died and we are in a new age to move forward and take this program to the big boy table and get the fanbase energized and involved.

Those kids stayed in all the way through the 3rd quarter...A+ to the students.

I can guarantee you that when CM takes this program to the heights Baylor and TCU have done we will have one of the best student sections in this state.

Very true. Two completely different programs. But go back and look: Attendance wasn't all that great before the dp either. We struggled to get 30K in the stands the year we won the Cotton Bowl. The goal is to change all of that and we continue to contribute our money and our loyalty (I have given to SMU for 40 years, including the time we didnt field a team), but in the mean time, let's give the band some better seats.
