Hate to rain on the parade, and I love Chad, but I don't see him at SMU much longer than 4 years...

He and his wife both went to A&M and their daughter is there now. Only reason I think he sticks around is because he has a son starting school now and won't want to move him in a year or two...one of the main reasons he stayed at Clemson as long as he did - didn't want to uproot his daughter while she was in HS.

Media folk were saying during the first half of the Baylor game that Chad would've been a good hire at Texas. Regardless of whether we make a bowl this year (and I think we go 6-6 and make a bowl), Chad is going to get it turned around here longterm and make us contenders in the AAC. Couple that with his successful run as OC at Clemson and he will be on the radars for all big schools with opportunities coming available in the upcoming years. I don't know if Texas' egos would allow them to hire an Aggie but I think if/when Sumlin goes to the NFL, Morris is at the top of A&M's list.

Frankly, if he can be our Franchione and get us on the map and 3-4 solid recruiting classes he will make this a much more attractive job for the next guy - and then we can get our Patterson

He won't be sticking around if we don't start filling up Ford every game.

If you paid him six million dollars a year with a five year contract and you were the only one in the stadium he's going nowhere

You think a P5 school couldn't match that?

SMU is not your typical G5 school...it has P5 spending power (probably top 30). We are trying to make this into a p5 school too by the way.

Yeah but the point is that we're not outbidding anyone in the P5 that really wants Morris. And that's just money, there are a lot of other P5 trappings we can't offer.

Sumlin was strongly courted by the Texans...I believe one of the reasons he didn't leave was because he had a kid in school too that his wife didn't want to move

The thing we do provide, if/when Chad gets it turned around, is job security that you can't buy. Making $3M+ and living in Highland Park with a job you'll never get fired from isn't the worst thing in the world.

Most G5 schools are there for a reason...mostly lack of a marketable brand (which SMU is), being a directional school (NTSU, Central Michigan, etc.) Or bearing the name of a city (Houston, Cincy, Memphis, etc.). SMU has money, location, prestige and facilities are coming soon. Quality of athletic programs has recently becoming a focus...TCU realized this in the late 1990s and now they have finally made the jump. I could see SMU getting there within 10 years if everything is done right.

Morris ain't leaving Texas.

The only possible step up is Aggy.

We will see what happens, but I am going to enjoy the ride to its fullest.

There's a lot of moving parts concerning a jump to the P5 (might be P4 eventually) and a lot of things SMU can't control even if it does everything right. It's asking a lot of any coach to wait around hoping that a unicorn will fall from the sky.

Strong will get at least another year after this one. I would bet that Heard is the starting QB next week against Rice and Strong ( or some proxy for Strong) will be calling the plays instead of their current OC, Watson. He was terrible. Watson might not last the year as OC. He promised up tempo and a wild new offense and gave them the same stuff they had last year.

Meh doesn't seem like a good enough reason.

College station is what 2-2.5 hours from houston? Obviously you take an nfl job down the road. If you dont wanna move the kid go get yourself an nice condo and bring your kid to the games.

Maybe I see it differently cause I'm not a parent but being 2 hours down the road IS NOT a good reason to turn down an NFL head coaching gig. It's not like he'd have to move to Tennessee or Jacksonville for crying out loud

Yeah you don't get being a parent. An NFL job is probably 12-15 hour days. How would he commute 2 hours? It sucks being away from your kids 5-6 days per week. It also is rough on families to have no consistent and reliable schedule.
