Tailgate TV adviceWe've had a spot on the boulevard for about five years now and are thinking about getting a TV set up since a lot of our games are night games this year. I've seen a lot of spots out there with TV's on stands hooked up to what I assume are satellite receivers. I just wondered if anyone had suggestions on where they bought their equipment (Best Buy?) or what satellite units work best. About how much would the budget be? I've got DirecTV at home so not sure if that's just something you can add to the account or not when you buy those receivers. Anyways, thanks!
Re: Tailgate TV advice![]() This is the best recommended satellite dish as it automates the process connecting to the satellite. Since you already have an account you will need to purchase or lease an additional box to bring with you and of course the most important point is a clear shot to the satellite in the sky. you'll notice everyone brings their satellite dishes to the inner portion of the boulevard as it doesn't have tree coverage and gives you a direct line of sight to the satellite which you will need You can buy the tailgater dish for around $350 a standard HD box without DVR and all for about $150 and of course the television you can pick those up anywhere for $400- $700. If you have a prime spot on the boulevard say for example like 33 they have green terminals that have AC outlets - would eliminate you having to have a generator as well http://www.winegard.com/anywhere Last edited by One Trick Pony on Wed Sep 09, 2015 2:08 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Tailgate TV adviceYou can use your box from home, they can't tell the difference. Or just buy a new one from Directv which they will charge you monthly for.
Re: Tailgate TV advice
I did that the first year but it's a pain in the [deleted] unplugging and plugging it back in its just better to buy one outright they're not much and then just pay the $7 additional box fee a month while the football season is here 21 bucks
Re: Tailgate TV advice
Thank you. Did you guys buy the Outdoor TVs that are supposed to do better outside or just do standard TVs?
Re: Tailgate TV adviceIf you want to go really cheap: An OTA antennae will get you the networks in HD for free and/or you don't want the hassle of dealing with Direct TV.
After my idiot cable company wanted to charge me $8 per month for a cable box for the guest bedroom TV that we almost never used, I bought one and discovered that the picture was perfect. They have outdoor versions. http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Ultr ... 6025771011 Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Tailgate TV advice
Yes that picture of the Dish Network satellite is in my garage. We did not rabbit ear it I'm just a regular vizio tv man
Re: Tailgate TV advice
Yeah, that's what we've used in the past. A crappy antenna but we got all the local channels, but we set it up with maybe a 15 inch TV on a table. I wanted to get something bigger and put it on a stand so it doesn't take up space on a table. I'm trying to figure out if its worth it to do the satellite unit or not. Plus we would leave it out on the blvd when we go in so I don't want to buy a nice TV that's going to end up getting stolen or screwed up.
Re: Tailgate TV adviceThey won't steal your stuff just your booze
Re: Tailgate TV advice
This.
Re: Tailgate TV adviceSetting up a dish on the vard is a total pain. I did it for three years. People bump it, the wind blows, rain comes down, etc. Go for the automatic one if you want to commit to having a good time and relaxing.
Re: Tailgate TV advice
Yeah, that makes sense. And very true on people stealing booze. One time we came back from the game and a whole group of people had re-setup our tailgate spot and were drinking our beer. Thankfully that's only happened once that I know of.
Tailgate TV adviceI used to pay students (21 and over) with beer to watch our tv and stuff during the game.
Re: Tailgate TV advice
If you decide that you want to go with the expensive automated Dish satellite As long as you don't ask me for technical advice I will gift mine to you. I know you or yours are Mustang Club contributors and I always share with those people
Re: Tailgate TV advice
I appreciate the offer, do you not use yours anymore?
