Memphis > UNT 2nd Stringers > Walk-ons Coach Morris not playing the same hurry up as Beaty (not yet) All I'm saying is SMU likely can't use KU as a measuring stick against Memphis.

I'm just biased against Memphis. They will always be tiger high, second rate school/program to me. Kind of how I used to see TCU and Houston. (still feel the same about the whackoffs).

Obviously UNT is not Baylor, but I saw a much improved SMU team last night. I didn't get to see them on tape, only live, but here is what I came away with. I was most impressed with the improvement in the DB's. The defensive line was also much improved. Tackles stuck; no almost tackles (like against Baylor). NTU came in thinking they could run on us. Didn't happen. We made some mistakes and didn't let them hurt us too badly. Two big mistakes early that should have given them 14 points. They only got 6. On our offense; They tried to shut Sutton down. Davis found other receivers and they (receivers) came to play. Things that need to turn around - When SMU gets the ball down inside the twenty we have to score. I'm sure the OL will have an opportunity to work on that this week. Finally, I think the vast majority of our coming opponents will play more like NTU than they will like Baylor. IF it were not for mistakes SMU would have scored over 50 points and NTU would have scored 7. I think SMU may be better than we PONYFANS are expecting. We might have a shot at winning 6 or more.

Here is the way I would look at the game - we made a lot of mistakes to hurt ourselves the first half and were somehow leading at halftime. Then we pulled away in the second half. Transitioning from a team that had to play well to beat a bad team last season to a team that makes a ton of mistakes and still wins by 20 over a bad team is a massive improvement.

Last year UNT had decent QB and that was not the case this year. This year UNT is worse than they were last year so there is no real way to determine the amount of improvement based on the UNT game. The ECU game will give a better angle at just how much we have improved imo.

No that was 2 years ago they had a decent QB named Thompson. McNulty played in 2014. Josh Greer also played but was a 48% passer on the year. Greer got beat out by McNulty last year and this year

I believe Thompson started for UNT last year in the SMU UNT game but was taken out in the 3rd quarter because they had a pretty good lead.

The ntsu QB was about as bad as advertised. To quote Crash Davis, "You couldn't hit water if you fell out of the boat".

Still think the ECU game will tell the most about the team. Baylor and TCU were emotional games and both teams and lost good defensive players. UNT was just a bad team with no QB. ECU is kind of a lower middle class team since they lost their starting QB but still a somewhat middle of the road team that is not bad (unlike UNT).

I completely agree. HAVE to go 2-0 here now. I don't care if we win by 1 or 50 to either team, just win and stay healthy. JMU game might be ugly (I have a feeling they will put some points up on us and I'm a little concerned the guys won't come out firing since it's FCS - but given that it's homecoming and there will, hopefully, be a lot of friends/family in the stands they will play balls out). I also don't think this coaching staff "let's" them lose to JMU. ECU might be a dog fight, but you can't go bowling by losing home conference games. That is a HUGE game. (hard for me to gauge how good ECU really is - I know they played Florida tough and they were very good last year). If anyone has a good read on them, please post here.
