Did Anyone see the Fred Neary letter in the DMN?

SMU Could Use Stafford

With all of the problems it's had at the quarterback position over the past several years, it's too bad that SMU couldn't persuade Highland Park quarterback Matthew Stafford to stay home to help revive the the program.

They printed it because Stafford isn't going to UT. If he was committed to UT there is no way in heck they would have printed that letter.

I don't see this being beyond the realm of possibility. Didn't a similar thing happen with another local kid... Mike Ford.

We have two things going against us... (1) living in the Park Cities, it won't be a new experience for him. (2) I don't think he has any family who went to SMU.

Now, maybe not Stafford... but don't you think this is the perfect time for SMU to steal a recruit or two? Just think Bennett is actually selling something tangible now. You come in and will be seen as the savior. Dallas is a big media market and loves a winner... SMU is still in the back of the national media's conciousness - there would be plenty of pub for a great SMU player.

Absolutely. We've swiped players in the past (Darrin Johnson after he changed his commitment to A&M, Cory Muse from Oklahoma State, etc.)
I bet we pull off a theft or two this year, too!

Supposedly Sam Bennett and Matt Stafford are good friends. Unfortunately for us, Matt is even better friends with his girlfriend who coincidentally goes to Georgia.

I wonder if his girlfriend would transfer with a full scholarship? Just like we did to get Ira Terrell and Craig James. IT's brother was on a full band scholarship and Craig's girlfriend was on academic scholarship.

Just wondering.

1. Stafford is considered to be the top QB prospect in the nation.. Mike Ford was not (big recruit but not that big) and when we got Ford we are handing out $100 bills like candy..
2. My best friends little bro is buddies w/ stafford and thanksgiving last year I asked him what it would take to get him to come to SMU (jokingly) he said not enough
3. His family went to FSU and UGA grad school. His sister goes to UGA and they are losing to QB to graduation. he is leaving in a month to go and enroll for the spring semester and hopefully start as a true freshman

well stafford might be 1st USA today all american.. a little bit better than first team texas football.. he will definately be first team tx football.. by the the time he receieves that honor he will be studying film w/ mark richt in athens UGA

Stafford broke up with the girlfriend which spawned the rumors that he would change his committment to UT. Sadly, Stafford reconfirmed his committment to Georgia and their blow out win yesterday I am sure didn't cause him to change his mind.

I have a hunch that he is not going to have a problem finding women at UGA. They have that junior that played when Shockley went down (who lost the game to Florida), but I have a feeling that Stafford will play. Remember, Richt played Greene as a freshmen (he may have redshirted under Donnan).

Stafford should have gone and played under Spurrier, if he was gonna go to the SEC. :twisted:
