We did have a couple of QB's that JJ would picked in the first round of the draft.........
JJ McDermott was an NFL guy according to June right?
And Ryan Leaf too....

Innovate or die. Jones had two QBs (Willis, Davis) that he could have tailored his offense to fit (or at least attempted to given that Davis came exceptionally late in his tenure), and instead he kept trying to jam square pegs into a round hole, and went about 0-7* in developing QBs while he was at SMU. And now he'll never coach at a respectable level again.
On further reflection, Jones did - and should be credited for - somewhat tailoring his offense to fit Gilbert's abilities. Unknown what impact Mumme had on it given that he was the OC.

I will be glad when we get to the point were all of us will stop looking at OOC as preseason and saying things like "we'll be okay in conference." That being satisfied with just being okay in conference is a June Jones mentality. We need to get to the point were okay when not in conference big games. If Morris gets 2 or 3 more good classes and we are on our way.

To be fair, he was the last QB to beat TCU

I propose we absolutely dismiss with the JJ talk if for no other reason than it is time better spent reveling that we have Chad. For however long he's here it won't be long enough and we will regret time wasted still [deleted] about the menehune

let's give JJ and his staff credit for getting Davis & Sutton to come to SMU. They may not have known how to use them, but at least give them credit for talent evaluation

Do you remember how totally mediocre GG was year 1? He was borderline awful at times. Year 2 was ALL Hal Mumme. He fixed GG and put him into a position to succeed (what and innovative idea to tailor your offense to your players skill set) and got JJ another year. Jones deserves exactly zero credit for GG.

One has to wonder if Davis would look this good if the Guru was still here? Chad's offense fits Davis' style much better.

no chance Davis would have been this kind of player (or even the starter) under JJ
