no no no..stay away from things like that......the problem with them is they do the wrong things for your kids...companys like that want as many kids in there as possible to make money period..best thing to do is contact a guy named jon janacheck..he use to be the strength coach for smu...he is a great strength coach and he works with high school kids in the fort worth area.........i would say email the smu strenght coach but i know him (not personaly) and he is just not a quality strength coach...great coach dont get me worng but his knowledge in the wt rooma nd on the track is very limited..he should be a football coach for smu..he would make a great on.....

I used to play for smu when coach jost (now at FSU) was there... when jost left to go to fsu and diesel came in (at this point i had given up football) all the guys said that the whole atmosphere changed..
when i was there we had one guy bench over 400 lbs (big time roidy) and now I don't know how many we have but I know it is around 10.

also you wonder why FSU hasn't been themselves that last couple of years (until this year) I put their lack of success squarely on his shoulders..

And when I was at smu I never remember Jost teaching us how to run.. this past summer I worked w/ the performance course and the kids are learning how to run now in 6th grade.. also Velocity is a big training thing that teaches kids how to run.. W/ these programs running form is being stressed everywhere along w/ hang cleans
-hang cleans is a half power clean and is basically the most essential lift a athlete will ever learn..
-all these camps need to stop stressing bench and squats and start stressing hang cleans..

as far as the smu strength program it is better now than it has ever been and just walk around the campus now and U can finally spot the football players.. they stand out cause they are big boys

well, fsu downfall is not because of jost...even though i think he is not a good SC. and through the grapevine he might be outed this off season. Velocity no matter how you look at it simply isnt good for your kids......teaching a kid how to run is extremly complicated...its not just telling him get your knees up and run...its breaking down the motion of running inch by inch, teaching your muscles how to move and repeating it over and over. i have never ran into anyone who works for velocity or any other trainning program that teaches it right. as for hang cleans..yep very importat, so are snatches, jerks. bench press...who cares......not very importat..also, i think bennett has done a better job of recruiting good size kids..caven recruited little kids and you can only do so much with kids like that in the weight room. so to sum up...i am dead set on velosity....almost everyone in my profession is thinks the same way, jost (horrible SC) isnt really the downfall of FSU there are other factors there...

Interesting, Bob King used to be my strength and conditioning coach (and Dean of Students) in high school. Always wondered what happened to him after the Mavs. Methinks I need to drop by annd say "hi".

SMU01,

Are you going to be offering your services in the DFW area or are you gonna be in Atlanta next year?

I wish you could provide a feeder system for SMU!

Hopefully i will be in dallas / plano area next year....currently i am working with 20 8th grade kids in north atlanta (equivillant to plano), along with 2 high school football teams.....the first and formost thing we focus on is form running..how to first teach one to run properly, then to be able to transition track speed to football speed....and also wt room lifting....cleans, squats, snatches, jerks...along with other aspects...having huge success here put prefer to reside in dallas....so im not sure where ill be next year.....the trick is finding a high school that is willing to let me come in and work with there kids...not only high school but 7th and 8th grade programs as well......

Are you north of Buckhead? Gwinnett county? Chamblee? Nice area, pretty good football.

yes, im north of gwinnett in alpharetta suwanee area...im working with alpharetta high school ( a brand new school lots of money like HP)....what i am noticing is parents that come to me from velocity and other programs that learned nothing..they trained with bunggy cords, negative and positive running resistment...but they did not know the proper running form......you have to have that first and formost and not many people know how to teach that....my best success story is taking an 8th grade quaterback..6ft tall..naturaly slower then a turtle and turning his 6.30 40 time into a 5.0 legit (laser timed accutrack). and all i did was teach him how to run...now we are working on converting that track speed to football speed...speed is something that takes years to develop...so all these programs that claim they can increase 40 times in 2 weeks to a month are full of it....some tricks to there trade is to time your kids in a 40 at the beginning of his trainning period but only measur off about 40-43 yards....then at the end of the 2-4 week measure out about36-38 yards.....obviously the time will be better. another trick they do is not time them at all in the 40..then time them at the end..that way you cant prove they didnt do anything....the one i like and no one picks up is they time kids with accutrack in the begging (this is with lasers so its accurate) and then at the end they time them with hand held watches.......if a kid runs a 5.0 laser time its a 4.8 hand held (roughly).......gainning speed and power takes time...some pick it up faster then others....also keep in mind that everyone has differnt genetic make up...no matter how hard you train or the type of trainning you can only get as good as your genetic make up will allow
