Holy [deleted] we won 1 game. It's funny how these days every team is awesome or sucks based solely on the previous game.

Note to RGT: Please do not slow play this coach on and IPF or anything else. He is worth the investment for the betterment of SMU.

Not on RGT. There were plenty of people in the CoC who weren't exactly thrilled with his antics and backed off donations the last couple of years. CM being so pro SMU and engaged with the school will make it all happen in the right timeframe.

That's true, but it's still nice to see some enthusiasm for the coach and the program.

If SMU ever got P5 status, we would be one of the 3 destination jobs in the state of Texas, arguably 2nd only to UT. Chad may prefer A&M, but for those without ties to College Station, there simply is no comparison between the cities (Fran's wife stayed here while he coached the Aggies).

I'm a hot-shot young coach with multiple offers. I can raise my family in Dustville West Tx, loony Waco, Cowtown, College Station or Highland Park. Remember, I want my kids to get a top notch education. Hmmm, tough choice.

I'm not sure that football coaches care as much about kids' educations as we might. Sumlin had a huge $700k to $1 million home in Sienna Plantation, but he made no more than 1 million. Still plenty enough to live in Memorial area.

Daughters went to St Agnes and younger boys to public suburban schools. Now, possibly A&M and BCS public or private. Bennett and Doherty lived in Park Cities and Doh had kids in the district. Any others?

I totally agree. The city you live in has very little to do with it.

Education is more than simply the schools they attend, it's much more than that. It's their surrounding environment. This is the 21st century, technology is bringing the world closer and closer together. You better have unique skill sets and a very broad view of the world to be successful.

I have 2 kids. I make decent enough dough. All things being equal, no way, no freaking way would I subject my kids to a Waco or Lubbock environment if the alternative was Austin or Dallas.

As I said above Reb, it's more than the schools, it's the environment. All things being equal, I want my kids to have a cosmopolitan upbringing.

But more importantly, what are you doing responding so early in the morning? It's 8pm here in Shanghai.

True and they will come knocking way before his 3rd year.
Chad is not really a "high risk" hire for bigger national schools.
Sometimes big schools snatch small school successful coaches and it's risky.
It's obvious Chad will be a much less risky hire for a big school AD.
We can pray he follows the Patterson model with A&M being his primary exception.
We want Sumlin to do well enough to not get fired, but not well enough to become NFL.
Who knows what the future holds so enjoy the only thing we have....the present.

Thank you for that review and for the acceptance of our current situation.

Point I am trying to make is Patterson has had offers. Good offers.

If he left tcu, he would lose millions of dollars in ancillary income as his leaving would cancel current business relationships with tcu supporters.

Being written into a new deal as a participant predicated you are still coach of XXX school. It is not brain surgery and it makes the issue of leaving more complex.

SMU has those that can, circle the arms of love and support around the Morris family, for a long term relationship.

I don't know as a person that grew up in rural America, and went to its fine fine education system. I would put my kids in the finest school, but would rather them grow up in a more rural environment than dallas. * personal feeling* I love the Dallas skyline, but really nothing beats Big Sky country

While l think we are getting ahead of ourselves here by about four years, it doesn't take all that much imagination to see big things. In a P5 SMU = USC. Great university in one of the top 4 MSA's in the country, and totally committed to sports. Would change the game for us more than even TCU and Baylor's situation.

Big 12 wont take three privates, so we need to focus elsewhere. But yes - lets just enjoy the run, do the best we can and know we need to position quickly for next steps.
