It's not a question of knowing how to tackle it's not being talented enough to get in position to make the tackle and then bring down better players.

It's coaching.

Coaches can't tackle. coaches can't run, coaches can't get on the field. They can only work with what they have. June left a bare cupboard and the new recruits are still wet behind the ears.

the coaches are responsible to train the players to tackle, run, etc. Van Malone, even with the crap June left him, needs to do a better job. Getting torched by an FCS opponent for 700+ yards is unacceptable. We're lucky we even had a shot to win this game. Shoulda been a blowout. We had absolutely NO answer for JMU's offense.

We used to not be able to tackle because we didn't hit in practice. Now we hit in practice.

So what is it?

Instead of "defense" let's just call them "human obstacles"...

I get the sentiment, but I am finding it harder and harder to not place some blame at the coaching staffs doorstep.

Talent level must be accounted for when determining your gameplan. You have to know what you have, utilize your strengths to hide your weaknesses, and then train to make your players stronger. I didn't see that.

I am going to assume that we are witness tonight and so far this season to the impact of poor skill and limited talent players combined with younger coaches who are feeling their oats a bit. I hope this gets better, but I worry because it is one thing to be beat because of your skill level, but another to be placed in the wrong spot on the field...because that is when players start to let doubt creep in.

Need to see this staff step it up and elevate the play on the field by better preparing the players...which is their job.

Doesn't help that Matt davis isn't a qb. He's a fantastic athlete with an arm. I can't even count how many times I was screaming because he had wide open receivers and he just a)got sacked b)took off with it anD fumbled c)dumped it off for a minimal gain etc

He just cannot see the field

agreed... his yardage comes from either throwing it down field to Sutton or taking off and running. he doesn't go through progressions and isn't decisive when it comes to throwing the football.. when you see him scanning the field, he ends up panicking and resorts to running.

Time management was bad and we saw that in the Baylor game for sure. However Chad was given some really really crappy players. I'm sorry Allen high school could shred our defense. They're a joke and probably would be on some crap FCS team if it weren't for the TikiDouche.
