Funny thing is that this is the one loss that can't be blamed on recruiting - they have ALL DITR and one D1 transfer at QB.

The biggest thing that popped for me is that we have three starting LBs who are afraid of contact and don't stay in their gaps. Any misdirection or counter screws them up completely. Move Shaq to safety, find frosh to play Star and MLB because it can't get worse than 700 yards in 3 of 4 games.

They have better DITR's than we do (that's recruiting). Stop with defending JJ. It was mostly on recruiting.

I'm too tired to look but I'm pretty sure JJ didn't give up 700 yards to three teams in a season let alone a month. Blaming June for this is easy. But it's far from the whole story.

We have a new head coach who has to rely on a hand full of freshmen for most of his best talent. There's gonna' be mistakes. In addition, we have a new head coach with a lot to deal with. As for time management and taking timeouts, he probably wouldn't had used all of them in the way that he did if he had more experience on the field. And, at the end of the game when Matt scored with about 2+ mins left in the game, that score came on a long run by Matt. Nothing could be done to slow the score outside of Matt Davis falling down, etc, You can bet Chad Morris would have wished for Matt to have tripped on the four yard line, because there was nothing Coach Morris could do after that. I suggest to you that we will be relatively close in all of the remaining games but, like tonight, mistakes will be one of our biggest problems. Nonetheless, in three or four years, the mistakes will automatically become a much smaller problem for the Mustangs.

I don't know either. However, I would suspect he did...and if not, he never beat UNT. I could mention JJ's past experiences with TCU (he did beat TCU once), Texas ATM, BAYLOR, Texas Tech, etc. but I won't.

Nothing could have been done to slow the game down, not even not running a hurry up? I've been saying this ad nauseum tonight and no one seems to get it. When you need to burn clock don't snap the [deleted] ball as soon as the ref sets it.

Growing pains, people... trajectory is still up. Last year, they would have beaten SMU by 5 touchdowns.

I'm sure Morris would agree with you if he was sitting here reading this post. Moreover, I would be very surprised if he didn't address this problem several times. These kids are going to make mistakes because they don't have the experience they need. Should the coaches have done more to change the tempo? Yes. However, hind sight is a beach.

I was thinking about this again this morning. The fact is SMU was behind most of the game. During that time SMU didn't need to slow down the clock. If anything we needed to speed it up. The clock didn't hurt us until the very end. That was because Davis scored on a long run with 2+ mins. left in the game. That's when we needed to slow the game down and we couldn't because we didn't have the ball. I have to admit I missed the first half because I was waiting on family to go to the stadium. I thought probably something happened that I missed. But, if that is the case, it probably didn't matter much because we were in the game until the very end.

One concern I have is that it seems like all of our coordinators are on the field, and we don't seem to make a ton of adjustments over the course of the game.

They several adjustments went to 3 man lines at times to try to stop them and put a spy on Lee. Just trying to make the same criticism that was made about you buddy Mason that you tried to defend. Mason hardly ever made good adjustments.

Opponents Yards Per Play

2014: 6.6
2015: 8.3

Total Defense-Dead Last-No. 127 by 18 ypg despite the fact that our offense controls the ball much better

Rebel10, I'm a passionate JJ hater, but you can't blame this loss solely on inferior talent. Coaching comes into play as well. How do you explain that we hang with TCU and Baylor, with inferior talent, but then end up getting destroyed by an FCS team? Trust me, I love CM and his staff, but this game really makes me doubt Van Malone's ability as a DC.
