On the defensive side of the ball, we did not make the necessary adjustments to stop a running QB. Malone was outcoached today.

Remember this is actually the second year of utter failure at LB-we had to move Kevin Pope from RB last year because these same kids couldn't do the job last year either

I remarked during the game that we needed to use 11 on defense instead of 9. I have never seen LBs disappear as ours do. That was my position so I am used to following them and for the life of me I cannot find them on the field.

Number 33 for JMU was all over the field making plays (Tank Reed style). Our LBs were MIA much of the time.

I thought Rhone made some big plays but there was a lot of inconsistency in all the LB play.

Almost appeared that we were guessing. Stop them for 1 or 2 yards on one play and then we didn't even touch them until into the secondary on others. Agree, very inconsistent.

our starting LB Nick Horton made another tackle last nite giving him 2 tackles on the season. He hasn't filled a hole once this year. He wasn't the only one but he was the guy who gave up one of those quick QB draws up the heart of the SMU defense. I'd going with the younger guys and build for the future. However, this is the position I'm most concerned about even in the next recruiting class. We really need to come up with an answer.

We were lucky to be in the game and wouldn't have been if their [deleted] coach doesn't inexplicably throw a pass late in First Half and then again on 3rd and 4 in the Red Zone. Both passes were intercepted. It should have been much worse. They are a better football team on offense and defense than SMU. It wasn't coaching-they were better than SMU

Van Malone does not need to be fired. He needs to learn from this loss and figure out how to fix it.

Chad and Van have been HC/DC for four games. They are learning too. Rome wasn't built in a day. Give them some time.

Well then you'd be an excellent person to ask this question: do you think that the shortcomings of the lbs can be coached out to some degree or is this just a lot to expect for their talent level?

Obviously not expecting all conference play but it would have helped a lot to have blocks being taken on, tackles being made being in the right gap etc.

It's amazing that yenga doesn't have anywhere near the skill of his brother
