I hear what you're saying but appealing for a revised decision based on the lack of speed in the first investigation kinda makes stretching out the appeal process through this season…ummm….?

I am simply dumbfounded. This is the biggest load of crap I have ever seen.
Postseason ban. Keith Frazier out one year. Larry out for nine games. Loss of nine scholarships over three years.
Un freaking believable.
Fight them.

Penn State lets a child rapist hang out in the locker room for a decade, gets sanctioned, appeals (threatens to sue), and gets all sanctions dropped one year later? North Carolina cheats for over a decade and still nothing? We sue the sh$t out of the NCAA for this and claim bias against us as we are not in a priviliged conference and I think we win hands down.........Talk about no consistency.

Would support. Or set up a funding campaign through the school that allows you to specifically donate to the legal effort

What can we mere mortals do to support that effort? Don't have a ton of extra cash, but would GLADLY put it towards the cost of the appeal. This takes insanity to a level that even the NCAA had to reach for to achieve. Someone may have jokingly mentioned setting up a GoFundMe account for it, but if SMU would use it I'd start it in a heartbeat

This hurts. This hurts as bad as the Death Penalty, which is about what this amounts to. Never thought I would have to relive that nightmare. Really thought the NCAA would think twice before hammering us again after the damage that was done in the late 80's that we have still not overcome. Is their hatred toward us politically driven? Is there some deep seeded issue they have with us that motivates them to treat us with such harshness? I just can't figure it out.
Lawyer up and fight these bastards to the bitter end. I don't give a damn what the outcome may be. I am sick and tired of their blatant selective enforcement and I'm sick and tired of getting pissed on by NCAA "committees", whether it be selection committees, enforcement committees or infractions committees. Screw them all. Take them to court and put them on notice that they have picked on little SMU for the last time. Make life as miserable as you possibly can for them through every possible legal channel at our disposal. Take it all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary. Just fight back!!!

Appeal and then sue if we don't get what we want. Claim anti-trust violations. I'm sorry, but Baylor had a murder and got a postseason ban with a ton of recruiting violations. PSU ultimately gets a slap on the wrist. As soon as the school finds out about the problem, we let the NCAA know. We self report, we make the player ineligible, suspend the offending staff member, and the NCAA does this to us. We got hammered in the 80's and after that we saw the U get a wrist slap. Alabama, Kentucky, Auburn, LSU, SC, Tennessee all get wrist slaps for basically the same stuff. UNC gets nothing, so far. Shaking my head. The hypocrisy of the NCAA just showed itself loud and clear.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Hipocracy will come full circle in April when UNC get less. If the NCAA believs are punishment is fair than UNC should get the death penalty.

This is the best reason as to why an appeal may actually work. First of all, I have no doubt SMU will appeal this which would take ~ six months. This means that the result would be in March time frame. It will be fresh in the media again right before a UNC penalty is handed down. The timing will force the NCAA to make sure there is some fairness in the result. If they want to go easy on UNC, they will need to lower our penalty. Appeal, save this post season with our good team, penalties get lessened when appeal is reviewed. This is best case scenario, but should also be most likely.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
