That's a whole minute off the clock or 2 timeouts.

Started with 4:04 ended with approximately 2:00. You cannot tell the receiver to drop the ball or Davis to drop to the ground rather than score when you are behind. Had Davis been tackled inside the 5 there is an argument for running time off the clock. 60 yards away and behind, you have to try to score.

The moment they did score my first words were "Too much time left". But you cannot fault them for scoring as they did.

If SMU had scored :20 seconds quicker then JMU scores :20 seconds earlier and we get in position for a Hedlund 57 yard game winning FG. See how that works

Unless JMU takes 20 seconds longer between plays like some say we should have done. See this gets to be a weird game of hypotheticals. I think obsessing over it is not as important as looking ahead.

Mrydel I generally trust your viewpoints so I am willing to consider that my perception of the events were off due to the excitement of the game or what have you. If anyone knows where I could see that drive in its entirety I'd like to take a look at it. But what I saw was that the whole offense sprinted to the line after each play and quickly ran another play, not taking much time off the clock. Morris mentioned in the post came interview that there was not enough of an effort to milk the clock on that drive and I assumed this is what he was referring to.

Of course always score when you can, as trips to the endzone are never guaranteed (unless you are jmu..) but it just seemed on my end more could have been done. However if I am mistaken, I humbly revoke all of my rants about the matter.

It is just too easy in hindsight to say we should have run more time. Had we known in advance we were going to score a TD I would certainly agree. But I was worried about getting into FG range. We did that with one big play, then the Davis scramble put us in the end zone.

Again, once we scored I knew there was too much time remaining but in my humble opinion I think scoring a TD took the lead over running time.

plus we had 3 Time Outs. You had to leave open to possibility that we might need a 2nd possession to win if we didn't make a first down. If we had to kick after Possession 1- 3 Timeouts give you a shot with Possession 2

Point is we lost the game but were in a great position to win it. Not like we got blown out as in the teams of old.
