SMU 74 LIU 62

Post by Charleston Pony »

well, a win is a win. Nice to see 5 different guys score in double figures...and Pearson and Morris both coming through with double/doubles.

I thought I heard the announcers say Williams was lost for the season with an injury and that Bamba Fall was looking questionable. Sure hope BHop makes it back.

I was coming in from out of town and missed the game. Did SMU play better than Sunday or was LIU just a bad team. I heard they were pretty small.

They were small and generally pretty terrible. Morris was impressive. We played almost as poorly as Sunday--we just pass the ball around the perimeter for 30 secs every play.

We have no idea what to do when the other team plays a zone. We will have very long nights when we play OU, OSU and Memphis. On the bright side Morris I think made every free throw that he shot. It is going to be a long year in bball.

I think they said LIU had a season HIGH in rebounds with 27 very late in the game. Wow! But it was nice to see Morris has a nice touch from the free throw line.

I like the progress that Morris is making, he has soft hands and a soft touch on his shot. When he drops another 15 pounds or so, we'll have a player. I dont make too much out of this game, LIU was a VERY small team. Probably the only team where we will have a height advantage at every position.

The game looked alot like Centenary, we played reasonably well in the first half, looked like we were in control and headed for a blowout, but then let them come back in the second half. We had a 16 point lead, and LIU actually came all the way back and tied it at 40. We're definitely not a 2nd half team. My other concern is that excluding Morris's 10/10 at the line, the rest of the team combined to go 11/21.

I agree with what another poster said, regarding the need to push the ball in transition, and play pressure defense to force a faster tempo, but I dont think this team has the depth or cardio fitness to do that. I think thats part of why we falter in the 2nd half.

i hope the second half swoons are conditioning related and not discipline related. cardio can be fixed, being undisciplined is another story..........

Since he has already played a few minutes in several games, I would think they would have to apply to the NCAA for a medical redshirt. Was he hurt in the game or practice?

I would have to assume it was either in practice, non basketball related, or a nagging injury that got worse. I base this on that he was suited up for the Toledo game but never played and showed up last night in street clothes.

He actually only got into one game so far this year and played only four minutes so I am sure a medical redshirt would be a certainty if they wanted to pursue it.

well if Morris can be adequate in the middle that's one more reason to redshirt Fall. I really think that is in the long term benefit of the program. Its obvious we ain't going anywhere this year anyway.

It was driving me nuts that we weren't getting it to Morris more often. During that lull where LIU scraped back, he seemed to be the only one busting his butt to get something going. LIU had no answer for him except fouls.

He also looked thinner from when I first saw him.

Williams/Fall

Post by Bball2005 »

Williams' grandad said that he had a nagging injury but really got it hurt in a practice about 2 weeks ago. He's having surgery on BOTH ankles, but one is something minor that they thought they should tackle since the other ankle will keep him out 3-5 months anyway. They will have to seek a medical waiver, but that shouldn't be a problem

Fall will almost certainly be redshirted. He said the other night that he was going to be back in a couple of weeks, but it doesn't look that way. He needs some time to put on weight anyway, so maybe it's best all around to wait on him another year.
