From an outside view, you may not win. But, I do think you will win this mess, at least on some things. Post season play. Eric Dickerson's head is probably blowing up right now. My head is. He has been [deleted] about the DP for 30 yr.s. You folks just took it, gave up. SMU could have taken down the whole SWC. They could have taken down schools outside the SWC. SMU should have played hardball then. Now the NCAA is using it against you. 30 years later. So, the perception is SMU cheats. All the time. That is what people think. So, what is there to lose? Really, what is there to lose? Appeal it, if you lose, find a way to sue the NCAA. There is no downside to appealing. There is no downside to filing a lawsuit. SMU leads the country in NCAA violations. So can anyone explain to me why you would not appeal. Your reputation? I think that pony has left the barn.

We have to Lawyer Up and appeal for national and our own credibility - the NCAA is a cluster f$$k. Everyone I've talked to in SEC territory either says SMU is a chronic cheater (only a few - not wise to throw stones at glass houses) or the NCAA far overreached here in an attempt to void Larry and regain some of their own lost credibility (about 90% of my buddies think this). There is little love for the NCAA in deep and dirty south.

Don't we need to appeal if only for image? What real program doesn't appeal?

I am very much pro-appeal, but to me the argument is we will lose out on recruiting and players transferring if the post season ban is upheld to 2016-2017. I personally think the NCAA will drop the post season ban if we appeal due to hookergate at Louisville, plus the PR statement has been made with SMU being drug through the mud for a whole week.

HEY- pony94 and stlouishockey pucker. Seems like most on this forum agree that this should be appealed and we should not roll over and play dead.
Guess we will see what actually happens and which of us are wrong and which of us are right.

I can only hope that Miller and some of the other big buck donors are in RGT's ear and are telling him to man up or forget future donations.

I have a sinking feeling that losing our seniors is unavoidable. I think appealing the scholarships is a bigger deal. I will be appalled if we don't do that.

And speaking with no inside knowledge at all, what if Miller and the other big buck donors are saying let's take our punishment and move forward?

I'm certain that they are going to be loose-lipped with their plans on the boulevard and at football games.

Mrydel- I would be really surprised if that is/were the case. IMO we should fight this or we will forever be the ncaa whipping boy as they will never respect us.

We've built for this season…we play for this season.

Why SMU would check out without an appeal is beyond me. Surely if Nic and Markus were to lead the rush for the exits taking our medicine and not appealing makes sense on one level.

Those who advance the "take your medicine" and recover position say that is playing the long game.

I wholeheartedly disagree.

The long game started three decades ago and unfortunately has yet to be played out to the satisfaction of thousands of alums from then until now.

As for our seniors: If they go, they go. Personally I don't see much benefit (in leaving) to them at this point. Here, at the very least, they'd have a full season, most of it under LB, to prepare for the next level…whatever that my be for Nic and Markus. Elsewhere, who knows….short term rentals usually benefit the landlord more than the tenant.

Appeal!

Fight this!

Light the bridge on fire….stand up to the bully.

Keep the team together through this year…with a serious chip on the collective shoulder.

I've maintained that this year will be LB's last anyway. So he becomes the sacrificial lamb in the appeal.

I'm ok with that…We've done very well by LB and him by us. Nothing lasts forever and nobody is ageless.

oh…and for the record: We REALLY suck at cheating.

Maybe this is the reason Nic played with KU this summer. To show how easily he can fit in with others....

That though crossed my mind…I'd have a hard time accepting if he turned up there.

Perception is reality, if we don't appeal everyone in the country assumes we were caught flat-footed cheating. This is a BS case by the NCAA and we better appeal and make sure we fight as hard as possible not to lose the post-season so Nic, MK and Tolbert can have a great tourney run....this is what we have been building for, for the last 3 years. How we fight this affects LB and our program's future.
