Regarding admissions, it would seem like the OP's friend would quit SMU admissions as well after the hoops revelations.
I worked in UH admissions a couple decades ago. All kinds of things go in an admissions office from donors' kids to athletes to a local kid with a 1510 SAT who decided not to attend MIT and chose UH instead. A box of chocolates.... mostly late appliers, transfers and reject complainers.

When UH builds something its on the back of student athletic fees and the guber'mint teet
However, SMU's sizable athletic deficit is funded by the highest student tuition rate in Texas.

SMU has a beautilful campus located in one of the nicer parts of Dallas, cougar high has facilities that definitely fit with the local area in which they are situated.
Obviously, we win on that one.

And SMU's stadium will always be Ownby to me. Went to many a Dallas Tornado game there.

Only difference is that SMU hasn't played a game at Ownby in nearly 20 years. UH was playing at Robertson three years ago.

That must be why only 47% of UH students graduate in 6yrs, so they can help out UH's athletic fund a few more years to balance it out.

Interestingly, if SMU reduced the student tuition rate, it would reduce the value of each athletic scholarship, thus reducing the athletic deficit

Don't some of the better athletes come out of the area in which they are situated?
