June hired Mason and gave him the power to pick his defensive recruits.

I think we are forgetting to say "play for each other, play together, take care of the football, we've had our chances but had some unlucky bounces".

You mean Morris & Malone. Opponents make adjustments, Morris & Malone not so much apparently. Obvious pattern developing here.

If you didn't expect this you don't know much college football. I'll tell you right now Defense will be poor until 2017 and most likely 2018-but we are going to get there. We have nothing on defense to build with-the answers are in high school. BTW I said AFTER Baylor and TCU games that I wasn't sure we were better on defense than last year. Didn't fool me
Not sure why anybody wouldn't take this attitude, not the sanctimonious tone, but rather the gist that HCCM will turn this around. A team can only improve so much in one year and SMU was so far down that it is hard to believe so many have such unrealistic expectations.
Houston was a good team last and haven't gotten worse. I understand disappointment, but heck there is a lot to hopeful about. Get a grip people.

Offense? No.
Defense? Hell no.
Special teams? Absolutely not.
This isn't black and white...there is more to it than crap players who are tired.
Your theory?
Myriad of problems. Players are worse than most wanted to accept. Just don't possess the physical or mental acumen to compete consistently at this level as a full cast...meaning there are some who will show their talent the next several years but with this surrounding cast, they are doomed. Add to that the mental weakness/softness brought on by last year's season and the coaching fiasco and the way the program was run. That is a recipe for disaster.
Coaches are all used to coaching players of a certain acumen. Their systems are predicated on players making the plays. Well, they don't have those players. I don't see too many changes being made after the half...other than shrinking the playbook, which is a bit confusing unless they have decided there is no chance to win unless ahead at the half.
We know the players are not really capable of maintaining this level of play consistently. I just wonder whether the staff has already written this year off for results and is using it to teach their system better, so when the next 2 classes or recruits come in they have upperclassmen who at least understand the system. If they go and start changing that system to try and win now piecemeal, then it probably compromises the long term potential. Just a question of whether your priorities are micro or macro.

If anybody is willing to jump off the band wagon... we need to run them over, back up, and once more... This is nuts. We BEGGED for a competitive game last year. We may not be winning but with the same talent that is EVERY game now

By the way, you could market your sons gift. The bench warmer... could use one for my seats come November. That and I'd like to get a head. Hahaha

Re: Houston game thread
hard to believe I know-and extremely deceptive due to Herman's plain vanilla 4th Q and SMU 1st half ball control, but we held UH to only 457 yards
