I know a lot has been made of our second half woes/inefficiencies being because of a lack of depth.

To me, there also seems to be a huge change in our offensive play calling. The first 4-5 drives there seems to be much more motion and "deception". By the second half, our offense seems to resemble last year with 4 wide outs and Davis looking for intermediate to long passing routes. For instance, I can't recall seeing a jet sweep (or even a "fake" jet sweep) in the second half this year to at least put a bit of a pause in their rush/line.

Obviously some of this is based on the scores, but overall it seems like we call different plays in the first half versus the second. Don't know if this is directed by Morris or the OC?

This offense needs help recognizing blitz packages and how to respond. We are going to see more and more of that as the season wears on because that's when the tide turns with our offense. By the time we finally decided to run another screen, everyone knew it was coming including Houston's defense

Exactly. Every play should have a hot read for Davis so he can get rid of the ball quickly to beat the blitz. Either Davis misses the read or Morris doesn't have one for each play, but either way SMU should be better prepared to handle it.

Our O line is simply not big enough, strong enough, athletic enough and combined with lack of numbers and depth to sustain reasonable performance more than one half of a game. You can call the best plays in the world, but if the ball handlers are afforded little opportunity to execute then the offense collapses and you can make a case for any failures you judge to merit comment.

For those who subscribe to Scout it was glaringly apparent from their analysis and write-ups after spring training that the O line was in big trouble and was probably the least talented and versatile unit due to lack of bodies and depth. This is JJ's legacy and we are stuck with what we have. This is the reality of our season and the reason the current staff has put so much recruiting emphasis on the O line ( D line as well ).

while it is true we need talent upgrades on both sides of the ball and especially in the trenches, we still need to be better against pressure. Houston started bringing 5-6 guys and Davis was completely overwhelmed

Yeah, there was at least one play last night where we had 7 to block 4, and 3 were running free. It was pretty crazy.
