To make it look like they are doing something.
Would you rather not have the scholarships?
Would should be fighting for the ban to at least delay it for the seniors over the ships imo. We can manage the ships but we should have done both. We only have a 9 man rotation anyway. Plus it will be a while before SMU can assemble a team like we have today. In order for us to get some high level recruits to come to SMU now we would probably have to do some things that would get us out back on probation.

I wish we appealed both as well, but I guess they figured we had no chance in winning. With our luck too, the NCAA would have come back with the appeal right before selection Sunday and ruined our day all over again. Unfortunately, it is what is. It just sucks that SMU can't have nice things.

It's not the point of whether we could won it but to push it to next year for the seniors. The golf team could be in the same situation as right before there NCAA tournament the NCAA could say no. It not about winning but fighting for the seniors who put us in this situation in the first place. We will not have a team this good for a long time.

Turner and Hart are ok driving this program to irrelevancy. They both need to go. Ridiculous.

What else is he going to do, publicly disagree?

Perhaps he thinks, for some reason, next year's team will be better than this one

3 reason to think not are no Nic, no Markus, no Tolbert and recruiting restrictions over the next 12 months.

No, don't get me wrong, I see the logic in what you are saying. I wish we appealed too for that reason. But as MRydel said in another thread, maybe Larry already knows we're going to lose some transfers so we might as well get the ban over with. I do think our team going forward is going to be pretty good. Obviously losing Nic and Markus will hurt but we do have good talent. Take everything I say with a grain of salt though...I only started following basketball 3 years a go.

Is it impossible for us to appeal and get the postseason ban lifted.. not postponed to next year?

First, the violations for golf rose to level one because they were a stacked group of level twos so its not as clear cut as the academic fraud violation which is clearly a level one. The sad fact in my view is that we have given the NCAA a way to whack us hard by simply denying the appeal and leaving the scholarship bans in place. We end up just as bad off as we were before without anything to show for it. By appealing both, the NCAA Appeals Committee could have allowed us to keep on or the other and can simply give the same penalty to UNC and Louisville and say, well if you had appealed the post season we might have given you that and allowed you more scholarships to keep it proportionate, but because you didn't, you lose.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
