The "what-if" - AAC respect growing
This is just a thought that has come to mind recently:
What happens if the American Conference gets substantial respect in the near future?
Sure we could benefit from playing well in a good conference. It is obvious that we are at least #6 of the 10... But if the American because too respected, could the 'P5' gang up and pick us apart? If the AAC gets picked apart, will we be on the good side of that?? Currently I fear that we do not have the momentum needed to jump? Basketball's NCAA trouble and a hard season, we aren't even in the discussion at this point.
On the other hand, if football keeps doing so well - our coaches will probably be picked off, one by one. That could be the worst option of all, preventing any team / school from truly gaining the momentum needed to make an impact. Not every team has a Gary Patterson...
Kinda doom and gloom, but just thoughts... It's a deep well to climb out of.

All the more reason June should have been sent packing while there was still a solid roster.

Honestly...what's to say Big12 doesn't lose OU, OSU, UT and possibly Baylor and TCU to any of the other P5's? If that even begins to happen, Big12 and AAC look to merge with maybe one or two schools left out, or a larger P5 conference with 2 substantial divisions. Wouldn't bode horribly for us.

That's exactly what the P5 will do if any AAC schools become popular enough to be legit TV properties. Of course that's not very likely, what's likely to happen is that one of the P5s gets raided into oblivion by the others and takes several AAC schools to backfill. We stand a chance to get into that raided conference depending on how many they lose but it won't be a power conference anymore.

I continue to believe the more likely scenario in future conference realignment is that the Big XII gets picked apart...before anyone looks to any of the G5 schools for expansion. Look around; BYU is the only G5 program with a significant fan following and that's what generates revenue. If Texas & OU ever decide to join the PAC(16?) and bring TTech and OSU with them, we will be hiking up our skirt once again hoping to rejoin TCU & Baylor in what will become the Little XII. I would love to hoop it up with Kansas but I don't see TCU and Baylor sustaining the level of football success they are currently enjoying if the big public schools ever decide to bolt. Big XII needs to hope they get a team into the playoff this year because if they get left out year after year...

Nobody is taking OSU and TT with them to anywhere. THe forced buddy system is over, and the networks aren't giving the short brother a scholy to get the tall brother anymore.

Rhule is a Philly dude so it would have to be a big jump.
Re: The "what-if" - AAC respect growing
Even though this conference is considered G5 I still believe they are better jobs than ones in the other 4 conferences.

TCU and Baylor will stay relevant as long as Patterson and Briles remain there. Patterson has made it clear that it will take an unusual deal to get him to leave Ft.Worth. Briles and Baylor have a seemingly shakier existence, but can sustain it if the AD and the Prez are on board, and as long as no more coed athletes are assaulted and no more athletes are found deceased.
