Re: Over 50% of the SMU football commits have P5 offers

Postby gostangs » Sat Oct 17, 2015 9:56 am

The comment that June was all in all a success is what stirs all this up. Playing in a weaker conference we achieved 4 lower bowl games, all of them basically participation trophies. Only one of the four was a game normal people could go to and have fun. Only one signature win I can think of his entire 7 years. Good transfer luck and really poor recruiting. No interest or ability to connect with SMU community. The list goes on. Agree it's time to move on and be happy we have the June antidote, but I just can't let that "success" thing go unchallenged. It was a success if your goals are at the bottom of the imaginable range.

Anybody miss the two "mustangs" that used to stand in the stadium during games?

Did he get better results than those before him? Yes. But, yes he was also better enabled to be successful through better funding and administrative support from school policies.

Were people excited about going to the first bowl games in 25 years? Absolutely, regardless of what tier bowl it was.

Did he have us compete for a conference championship? Yes, for one year, for the first time in 25 years. But not consistently, which is the expectation.

Did he help to elevate us and put us in a position to join a BCS conference? Yes until the conference fell apart.

Did he get us a double digit win season? NO

Did he put us in competitive situations in games against BCS opponents? NO

Did he do a poor job of building relationships with HS coaches in Texas: Yes

Did he not put enough energy on the recruiting trail? Yes

Was he trying to prove a point that he could evaluate on tape and offer DITR and not build relationships? Yeah, probably.

Did he just manage to get by with the success he had out of name recognition, the fact that his staff was stacked with former pro scouts and could identify diamonds in the rough better than others by watching lots of tape? Yes

Did he use antiquated schemes? Yes

I think most of us that weren't on the June Jones should have been lynched 5 years ago bandwagon were simply saying that the guy did better than those before him (regardless of support level improvements). We weren't saying he was performing at the level we all want this program to get to. But he had to fail before we moved on. He failed, and we moved on, and everybody was on board that train. From an "outside the SMU Bubble" perspective, if you fire a guy that took the team to 5 straight bowls after 25 years of hell just because he went 5-7 one season and flirted with other opportunities, you are going to look really, really stupid and have an impossible task to find someone to replace him. On top of that, the people in the CoC weren't willing to pony up the money to buy out his contract at that point.

Another unreal nauseating post by the true June Jones suck up. June Jones staff was stacked with guys ready to retire (some played or coaches pro ball but not pro scouts) and they did not do well in recruiting. They we not where they should have been as we can clearly see. And we are suffering the consequences of June and his staff's recruiting.

Most of Jones best players were Bennett recruits including the OL and WR's. When all of them graduated they started going downhill.

The task of replacing June certainly wouldn't have been impossible since Morris would have definitely taken the job back then.

Maybe he meant June attended the NFL Pro Bowl in January while the other FBS Coaches were recruiting-I do remember that

64% of SMU football commits have P5 offers

Postby Rebel10 » Sat Oct 17, 2015 2:02 pm

Best since the DP and beats June's best class by 10% (per Stallion). Considering this is HCCM's first full class that is really good.

that wasn't June's best class-its just the 2013 season from AAC years JasonB was using to make it appear that June was outrecruiting Chad Morris this year

Has JasonB seen our defense full of June Jones recruits the last 2 years?

Of course he did. It was in Hawaii. Where else would he be.

2 things on that list I would really disagree with - his staff was terrible at talent spotting and were lazy recruiters. Also you dont keep someone you know Is lazy and basically robbing you due to how it looks. You take action and let the chips fall.

Title has been corrected to show current % of P5 offers. Outstanding job by the staff.
