How Much Can Larry Coach?

Postby The Falcon » Sat Oct 17, 2015 3:22 pm

Can someone more knowing comment on whether LB can coach practice for the first
9 games of the season while Jank coaches during the games?

My guess is that he will not be able to and that he may not have any contact with the
team during that period.

Will he be allowed inside the playing area during the first 9 games?

I guessed that he could but someone quickly corrected me and said he could not coach practice. I would doubt he can be present during games.

Thought somebody said on this board or one of the "pay" sites that he cannot coach the team while suspended. Would guess that if that's true, he'll be watching the tapes of practice to help out Janks.

Thanks Mrydel - I was looking a little further into the NCAA report to validate the facts and
found the following section about the head coach's penalties:

[a]As part of his show-cause order, the head men's basketball coach shall be suspended from his coaching responsibilities for 30 percent of the men's basketball season to commence at the start of the 2015-16 basketball season, not including any exhibition games. During the period of suspension, the head men's basketball coach is prohibited from performing all coaching and recruiting activities and may not have any contact with members of his basketball staff, student-athletes, and prospective student-athletes;

I guess he can coach practice up until the first game of the season which is when the suspension starts.

you obviously don't know any teachers. Mrs C.P.'s "summer break" means she only works 30 hrs per week compared to the usual 70-80 hours during the school year

Most people get paid leave. It is called vacation here in Arkansas. Not sure about Texas. I doubt Larry Brown has taken a lot of time off while at SMU.

When you get a 2 month vacation that's called Summer Break-you damn kids don't know how lucky you are with your summer breaks, Christmas breaks, fall breaks. spring break. Get off my lawn.

Pretty sure school will be year round soon. Back in my day we started the day after Labor Day and ended mid May. Now they start mid August and get out early June. But they get several long breaks during the year we did not get. I never had a spring break even at SMU.

Of course we only had 6 day weeks then since God had only started to rest at that time.
