How do you expect us to be invited to a Power 5 conference if we don't play them and beat them on occasion? Unless we get an English Premier League relegation system (which since rivalries and history are no longer important makes some sense), we need P5 victories to get ranked, and get a shot at an invite. Otherwise, we're just the best pee wee team in the Country.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Why schedule Baylor, Texas Tech, etc. when they do not want us in their conference? Why do them any favors and be their whipping boys? Why are we playing Michigan? Money? We don't recruit in Michigan so the game is nothing more than an easy victory for them. I don't see much success going forward until the AD puts a non-conference schedule together to get the team to 3-1 or 4-0 going into conference play. Tired of the same old losing seasons with no hope for success. I am not the only one because the alumni, students, and the local community are not supporting the team with a losing record.

Johnny, Johnny, Johnny?

Scheduling, recruiting, DCoordinator, and attendance criticism off limits on this board. Get with the program man.

Why did your son choose SMU?

SMU? My daughter plays volleyball at TCU.

See Memphis and Ole Miss. I am sure some on that board wondered why they were on the schedule. Now we know. Major step for the program. If you are looking up, it's a test of where you want to be. If you are looking down, it's confirmation of your talent (or a wake up call before entering conference) and the opportunity to get some playing time for depth chart who may be needed later in the season. Very common in other sports - world cup soccer - schedule friendlies against major competition, not someone you are sure to beat.

Memphis and Ole Miss have a long standing rivalry which like ours with TCU has been rather lopsided in recent years. With Saturday's win, Memphis has now won 3 of the last 13 games those 2 have played

Another sibling that can't win in the SMU-TCU competition. Does she ride the bench too?

I know footballdad is annoying, but it's best to say nothing vs rail on someone's children. The dad is the tool so just suggest you keep comments to him.

Or not - up to you.

SMU, since the demise of the SWC, has had more difficult non conference schedules than its non-Power 5/non-BCS rivals and peers.

I keep pointing this out and everybody keeps insisting we kick ourselves in the balls every year.

But, whatever. The next time we start with consecutive ass-kickings will be the magic season where we really take off!

I agree 100%. Tech and TCU, even Baylor, more understandable. But Michigan? Come on!

I know damn well why those two played and it had nothing to do with hoping and testing.

Memphis needs money and Ole Miss wanted a win. Tommy West complained bitterly about having to play an SEC team each year, but Memphis was losing $1M/year back then. Porter wasn't around long enough to complain. And no offense to the Tigers, but it's only a rivalry in their eyes.

As for the Rebels, just look at the rest of their non-conference schedule - they might as well have played those games in a sorority house for all the pillow fights involved. In years past it was practically an Ole Miss home game, played so that local alumni didn't have to make the hour trek down to Oxford.

Memphis found the right coach, who built a team and pulled the upset. Good for them. But don't act like Memphis has been trying to build something, because they haven't. They happened to get the right guy in there who has it going on, and if they don't start trying to build something soon they will lose him like they lost Calipari.

Also, if we can't compete with them in 2018, that's on us. As I hate Jim Harbaugh, I really hope we win that game.
