If the BCS expanded to Eight Conferences...would C-USA make it?
I have heard that this move might be used to squelch any BCS concerns. They would probably make the Holiday Bowl the fifth BCS bowl, making 10 BCS teams. Willis to slot receiver!
I think having CUSA in the BCS would be amazing, but I doubt that would ever happen. First off, Mountain West is probably ahead of us in the pecking order.
Furthermore, CUSA's champion this year is Tulsa. Tulsa is one of my favorite teams after the Ponies, but I don't think the level of competition in CUSA is comprable to teams in exisiting BCS conferences (Big XII, SEC, etc). What if Tulsa was playing in a BCS bowl this year? It's a nice thought, but I think they'd get whipped pretty bad by any halfway decent school from a large conference. The same goes for SMU next year when we win CUSA! However, it is nice to dream.
yeah, but if the conference was able to share in that money and instead of the conference getting no money from the bowl payouts (most of it goes to pay for the teams just to go to the bowl), there would be a significant amount left over after the teams have paid their expenses that would be distributed among the conference mates. While the first few years it might be that MWC and CUSA were whipping boys, when they start getting the infusions of cash from the BCS payouts the elites of all the conferences are going to dramatically improve and suddenly you have a very different NCAA landscape.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
understand this people!!!
the bcs-bs was set up to exclude the rest of us!!! get it thru your pointy head!!! they don't want us plain & simple!!! ITS A CARTEL & it was set up that way!!! the only way change is going to occur is if congress gets involve & 'threatens' change or the wimpy prez of the outcasts finally decide to fight for what is right once in their meazley little nonexistant lives!!! end of story on to the next topic now BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Wouldn't it be funny if the BCS expanded to 8 conferences and CUSA was invited and the MWC got left out.
Froggies would be sooooooo mad. Just send 'da money.
keep dreaming, but if did somehow happen I think the MWC gets in first and then I guess CUSA would get it by an eyelash over the MAC. Its the same old thing, if you are on the inside the concept is okay all of a sudden. Kind of like Mile Slive once he became an SEC guy.
It would be more likely that the BCS would move to a format where the big 5 conferences would receive automatic bids and at least one team from the Big East, Conference USA, MAC, MWC, WAC and Sunbelt would gain access automatically if it met a minimum BCS standing.
I would agree with that. More likely to drop one, but I would not count on that. Next in line is MWC at this point. Hopefully CUSA gets better.
If we do not have a playoff, I would like to see something where at least some spots are available for play in by non-BCS schools. Like the top non-auto qualifies from four of the remaining five conferences play in bowl games designated for the purpose. Should generate higher interest that a random low end bowl and more $$. Also, the other conferences could negotiate some revenue sharing deal so that everyone gets something. ![]() Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
My guess is that it would be the MWC and our CUSA. I think some of y'all would be surprised at how competitive our conference champions would play the big boys at a neutral venue. Dream on Sewanee Stang about the Big East relinquishing its BCS status. The BCS isn't gonna pick that kind of fight. Willis to slot receiver!
They won't kick out the BE. They made their deal with that devil to keep their majority in the NCAA Division 1-A council. That way they get to keep spouting the line that the BCS system only exists because the NCAA Division 1 President's Council lets them exist. If the President's wanted a playoff there would be a playoff. But because they've managed to keep 65 teams they have a majority. If they kicked out the BE, then they'd have 57 teams and a playoff vote would be immediately called for and guess what it would pass 62-57. Would they add the MWC in lieu of the BE? Perhaps. But they won't reduce the number without risking losing their monopoly. They can't leave the NCAA for football because if they did they couldn't compete in the other sports like basketball where they do make out like bandits. The BCS was offered $3 billion to have an 8 team playoff open to the top 8 teams, and turned it down because they might have to share the money will all 119 teams.
No way, the Big East is a better conference (I hear the groans already fellas). The Big East has West Virginia, USF, and Louisville along with schools with much better traditions than the MWC. They will add two more conference. That way, the playoff system has no chance to exist. Willis to slot receiver!
With all of the talk about Florida State getting an automatic bid and Oregon being left out with only one loss I agree that if anything the number of automatic bids will shrink to allow for more at large bids to the BCS bowls. Just my opinion.
