I like "the mooch". Never met him but see him at most games. I remember back in 2000 or so he would wear a basketball (cut up to be a helmet) on his head to the basketball games. Besides Mr Cheerleader we have dubbed the mooch as The Ultimate Fan.

Well apparently he's paying for red seats in basketball so I wouldn't call him a mooch. Perhaps he is intelligent enough to realize you don't pay for tickets to football games at SMU lol
I really don't mind it as long as you don't rub it in my nose , then sit next to me

If you don't see a problem with it fine just ask him to sit in your seat though not mine.

You would think after 8 years he would buy seats there if he loves 104 so much. , Pony Up

Otherwise just turn it into a free for all general admission $5 a head still couldn't fill it up

Holy crap I never expected something like this.
So, here's the story. On the day that picture was taken (Tulsa game) I sat in that particular seat so that I could talk to BUS, who you cant see in the picture, but he was right in front of me. My actual seats (mrydel's tickets) were at the other end of the row, but since the row was practically empty and BUS and Arkpony were at the north end, I moved over. If you didnt want me to sit so close to you, you could have asked me to move over, at any time, there was plenty of space.

Before Ford Stadium opened I bought 6 season tickets in row 4, dead center of section 104, right on the 50 yardline. Best seats in the house. Months before the stadium opened they let me look at a map and point at exactly which seats I wanted. I bought 6 seats because I planned on bringing lots of friends to the games, and family when they were in town. The only problem was, nobody wanted them. Ever. Everybody I knew who wanted to see an SMU game, or was even willing to attend, already had their own tickets. Nobody else had even the slightest interest in coming. My friends had extra tickets that they couldn't give away. I couldn't twist anybodies arm and get them to come to a game. In those days, I frequently didnt use my tickets, myself. I volunteered for the stat crew on game days and I had a sideline pass so I could get injury updates and report them back to the press box. Most games I'd see groups of students sitting in my seats, I guess they moved over to the shady side because their own section was too hot, and no-one ever actually enforced the seating. It was easy to just sneak down and sit anywhere.

A few years ago I stopped buying football tickets. It doesnt seem like 8 years, but I guess thats about right, it was not long after Orsini became AD. I went by the ticket office to renew my season tickets and was told they weren't available, someone who donated more money than me had bought them already. I had those seats for years, literally since before the stadium opened, but someone else wanted them, and they had priority. The kid working in the ticket office went into a spiel about all the other places in the stadium he could "put" me, but I declined. All I could think of was how foolish I had been to spend that much money for years on tickets that didn't get used. The price for tailgate spots on the boulevard had gone up from $80 to $480 the previous year, and I had let my spot go and merged with BUS. I didn't see a point in buying tickets, particularly if the school could simply take away the seats I had always had, without even saying anything to me. My friends always had extra tickets to give away, and if i needed to I could buy a $5 general admission ticket and sit anywhere I wanted. There were all kinds of ticket giveaways and discount packages that were much cheaper than season tickets. I didn't even need to do that, though, I'm in the Letterman's assn. and I could have gotten a free ticket in section 209. Or, I could have gone back to working for the press box. The more I thought about it, the more I felt like a major league moron for paying so much for something I didnt use, and that was available for practically nothing. There was other stuff going on with me and SMU at the time, this was not long after Jimmy Tubbs was fired, but selling my tickets out from under me was kind of the straw that broke the camels back. I decided that if SMU wouldnt sell me the seats I considered mine, I'd just find an alternate way to get to the games. So I have. This year the Letterman's Assn. gave 2 free season tickets to active members, but I still like to sit in 104 alot of the time, because that's where my friends are. That's why I moved down to the other end of the row, I wanted to visit the people I knew, the ones I considered my friends. At the time, that actually included you, that's why I sat there, I thought it would nice to say Hello, and see how you were doing. Guess I'm a real freaking idiot, huh?

The basketball tickets mrydel mentioned are mine, and always have been. Had season tickets since I graduated. I used to have LOTs of basketball tickets, in different sections, so I could sit with my friends. For years, when I was still wearing a basketball on my head, I would slip down into the student section because that was the only place I could really yell and carry on without bothering other people. I used to have a couple of tickets in the red seat section, I'm surprised you dont remember, because I was right down the aisle from you. I let most of the basketball tickets go during the Matt Doherty era, I was still at every game, but the rest went unused because nobody wanted to see that debacle. I still have 2 pretty decent seats, and I did offer to work out a football/basketball exchange with mrydel, but he didnt know how many games he could make it to this year. He knows there is a seat available if he wants it.

I taught the General Chemistry Lab at SMU for a couple of years, but I never used the Faculty tickets, my seats were better.

I have mentioned out loud that I dont buy football tickets anymore. That's true, I have said that. I guess that was my mistake.

Maybe I'm not a good fan, anymore. I have to admit there are times when I wonder why I bother? I used to go to everything, soccer, volleyball, swim meets, etc., I didnt miss a single home game of any kind for more than 20 years. Now I still make football games, and mens and womens basketball, but only a handful of games for the other sports. I show up late for the tailgates nowadays, we dont cook anymore, and I hate paying 20 bucks for parking. I'll admit my enthusiasm isnt what it used to be. I still give money to the Mustang CLub, enough to qualify for my basketball tickets, but not sure how long I will do that.

The funny thing is, I still have no idea who bought my original football tickets. At most games they're empty at kickoff, and random people sit in them at different games. I dont think the people sitting there actually own the seats, they're just moving in because they're empty.

I sat next to you that day because I wanted to say Hello. I didnt realize it was a problem, sincerely. You could have asked me to move, at any time, though, it's not like there wasn't plenty of space. In fact, it really would have been better if you had said something to me directly, rather making it an internet thing. You've known me for years, perhaps we arent the friends I thought we were, but you should have been able to say what's on your mind.

I think that's my final word, as far as the internet goes. You know who I am and where I am, if you wish to continue. No one has ever had to ask me twice. I should say thank you to mrydel and Arkpony for sticking up for me, but now I'm going to ask you not to comment any further, either, because I would prefer this to just die down. Frankly, it's become embarrassing. Thanks guys, take care.

OTP, your obsession with reselling your tickets for a profit is causing you problems. Consider this an intervention.

Out of all that, the biggest takeaway is paragraph 2 in BDE's post, beginning with the second "I bought'' and ending with "away." Sadly, every single one of us can relate to that.
