Change of PaceWell. . .its a gray overcast day, the Ponies are 1-9, and signing day isn't for another 4 months. I figure its time to break this one out again to pass the time:

Re: Change of PaceGreatest Rushing Season of All Time
Greatest Rookie Rushing Season of All Time Quickest to Reach 10,000 Yards All-Time (91 games) In his prime he was the greatest RB of All-Time playing with some of the worst QBs in NFL History "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

Never seen that one...classic 80s. Was this before or after the Super Bowl Shuffle? "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: Change of PaceAnd as an avid fan of the Madden Football game ...love seeing that Eric Dickerson is still in the game and actually the best RB available in the game (over Walter Payton, LT, and others) ... good for the youngsters who may have never seen him play an NFL game...
Kind of Ironic that he is the most expensive player to acquire in the Madden football game (you have to buy his card with madden coins that you earn by playing the game)... I still can't afford him - but I think Sherwood Blount has him on his team... http://www.muthead.com/news/627-legends-hines-ward-and-eric-dickerson "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: Change of Pace
Wow, that is freakin' hilarious!! I remembers the 1985 Bears' song, but somehow I missed that one.
Re: Change of PaceEric Dickerson with the Rams was not a case of him playing with some of the worst QBs in NFL History. One of the worst Owners who wanted to underpay him? Yes. Playing in a division against Joe Montana and the 49ers? Yes. Its a same, Jim Everett when he was with the Rams was a pretty damn good NFL Qb and was throwing to two of the best WRs in the NFL in Henry Ellerd and Flipper Anderson....should have paid ED!!!!! Probably still could not have gotten by the 49ers
Re: Change of Pace
Agree with dwan on this. Everett was one of the top QBs at the time. Better than McMahon, OBrien, Kosar, Wilson Sims etc. only Marino Elway Montana Cunningham Moon And Kelly may have been better. "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: Change of Pacethe only problem with that is that Vince Ferragamo and Dieter Brock were the QBs in Dickerson's first few years not Everrett-both almost threw more Ints than TDs. In 1984 Ferragamo was benched in 3rd game for the great Dartmouth grad Jeff Kemp who actually did throw more career Ints than TDs. . Dieter Brock started as a 33 year CFL refugee in 1985. Dieter hit on 30% of his passes in 1985 Playoffs with 2 Ints and 0 TDs. Everrett started only 5 games in 1986 and 11 games in 1987 and Dickerson only started 2 games with the Rams in 1987 before being traded to Indy so he never really played that much with Everrett. Ferragamo, Kemp and Brock were 3 lousy NFL QBs and Dickerson carried the team on his back

Re: Change of Pace
Well, he did get to play with Jeff George... Now that i know that Jim Everett did not really cross with ED, your point is quite valid...no QBs. Which makes what he did even more impressive... "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: Change of PaceI would love to see a highlight tape of ED's runs at SMU. Some of them were better than anything he did in the NFL.
Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Change of Pace
That's glorious.
Re: Change of PaceBy every statistical measure, Dickerson was one of the greatest backs in NFL history. But I have to admit that when I think of Eric in the NFL, there is still an element of "what could have been" that creeps into my thoughts. What if he had played for the Niners or Redskins, rather than the Rams and Colts? What if he hadn't missed time due to various contract disputes, the strike-shortened season, etc. He seemed to always be in some kind of dispute with the team he was playing for. By the time he retired, he was pretty done with the NFL, and I think the NFL was pretty done with him.
I'm trying to be very careful making this point. Not trying to dog ED at all. ED is probably my all-time favorite player, and watching his highlights today makes me realize he was probably even better than I thought when I watched him play in the NFL in the 1980s (I was just a little too young to remember him at SMU). Plus, he's the greatest player ever to come out of SMU, which is all I really need to put him #1 on my list. But the point I'm trying to make is that talent-wise, I feel like he should be in the same conversation as Jim Brown and Walter Payton. And yet, he's never been given that level of recognition.
Re: Change of Pace
I agree about the 49ers. The Niners in the 1980s were one of the most complete teams I've ever seen. They seemed to have playmakers at every position on both sides of the ball.
Re: Change of PaceFerragamo led the mighty Lambs to a Superbowl and damn near beat the Steelers!!
My point was I think ED suffered more from Bad Owners than anything. Should have paid him in LA, period. He was the number 2 pick so of course he was going to have to carry the team for a couple of years as they were totally rebuilding. And they actually were rebuilding in a nice way with some nice pieces. Everett and ED never really got to play together due to the strike, it took them a while to sign Everett (management), and ED then leaving. Had the Rams paid him, we would have seem him play with Everett, who was pretty damn good before he mentally became scared to play. ED in the backfield, Henry Ellerd and Flipper Anderson at WR, Everett at QB, and offensive line lead by Jackie Slater. A defense lead by Kevin Green...would have been nice to see. Still had to play the 49ers. They never really got much out of the players they got in the trade for ED....one decent season out of Greg Bell where that team was good enough to go the the NFC championship game, would have been cool to see what they could have done with ED as opposed to Greg Bell
