PonyFans.com VIDEO: Rhonda RompolaFrom SMUMustangs.com: SMU Falls To Rival TCU, 89-79, Despite Second-Half Surge Froling leads all scorers with 26 points and 14 rebounds Nov. 18, 2015 DALLAS (SMU) – Sophomore forward Alicia Froling recorded her seventh career double-double, scoring 26 points with 14 rebounds, but the SMU women’s basketball team fell to rival TCU, 89-79, Wednesday night at Moody Coliseum. SMU shot 46 percent from the field and 88 perfect from the free throw line, out-scoring TCU 44-34 in the second half. Froling, who came up one point shy of matching her career high, was one of four Mustangs (1-1) to score at least 10 points for the second straight game. Junior Ashley Gibson finished with 18 points and four assists, while forward Stephanie Collins posted 11, going 5-for-8 from the field. Gabrielle Wilkins managed a late surge finishing with 10 points and three rebounds. Trailing 72-53 entering the fourth quarter, SMU cut the lead to 12 with the ball with just over two minutes left, but TCU (3-0) forced a turnover and converted the three-point play after a foul, stretching the lead back to 15. SMU was on a 9-0 run before the turnover, which came after a defensive rebound for SMU. The Mustangs finished the game on a 15-4 run, but the halftime deficit was too great to overcome. Both teams started the game shooting 50 percent in the first quarter, but it was the Horned Frogs with a 27-20 lead at the end of the first 10 minutes. Morgan Bolton nearly cut the lead to four, but her half-court shot went halfway down before spinning out as time expired. Gibson scored eight of her 18 in the first quarter, sinking a pair of shots from behind the arc. TCU closed the half making nine of their last 10 to take a 55-35 lead into the break. Froling led the Mustangs into the break with 11 points and six rebounds, while Gibson scored 10 points with three assists in the first 20 minutes. The Mustangs continue their season-opening homestand Saturday at 1 p.m. against No. 18 Arizona State in Moody Coliseum. PonyFans.com ... is really the premier place for Mustang talk on the Web.
