Nichols: SMU vulnerable to new rulesSMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: Nichols: SMU vulnerable to new rulesIt seems that the refs in all games I've watched are calling as much as they can so that the rule changes get recognized and stick. This is happening to everybody and the teams that catch on quickly are the ones who will benefit. To my way of thinking that would be the WELL-COACHED teams. That would be us.
Sure…some of our guys may be more vulnerable than others and we surely don't have the size depth underneath that we had last year but the fact of the matter is that we are nine deep right now and 10 when Semi is eligible. And the rule changes will result in a faster moving, more athletic game. That suits us. On offense we don't stand around and jack threes…we tend to work inside and inside out. They'll foul us. Teams that live and die by the three won't get fouled nearly as much. Let's see if Markus can go more than the foul per minute average he started with against Sam Houston. I think we'll be ok. And I enjoyed seeing the zone some. Party at The Wopper!
